Raymond Michael Panas (born 12 September 1963, Titusville, PA) is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Research at The George Washington University (Washington, DC) and Director of International Clinical Development at Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc., (Bethesda, MD). Currently, His research interests are related to the implementation of globalize standards for international clinical development/operations as well as the establishment and impact of regulatory policy on pharmaceutical research activities.
Biography
- After receiving his BS in Biology and Economics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986, he received his MPH from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health in 1991. He received his PhD degree at Walden University in 2008 with his dissertation topic being an evaluation of the subjects in a pharmaceutical clinical trial to determine if there were difference in the subject population based upon recruitment methods. Before joining Sucampo Pharmacueticals, Inc., in 2002, he served as a Clinical Project Manager for Wellstat Therapeutics from 2001 to 2002, Senior Clinical Research Associate for TAP Pharmaceuticals from 1999 to 2001, Senior Clinical Resaerch Associate for ClinTrials Research from 1995 to 1999, and a Microbiologist for the Allegheny County Public Health Laboratories from 1989 to 1995. In addition his academic appointment at The George Washington University, through Laurate Education he serves as adjunct faculty for Walden University and the University of Liverpool.
Raymond Panas has served on several advisory board including the International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Health Outcomes, Invivodata, and The Conference Forum. He has contributed and presented several poster and presentation at various conference, international meetings, and webinar session. He has also been published in several journals. He has also been a member as well as served on the board of directors for several organizations including as the Research Triangle Park, NC Chapter President (1998-1999) of the Association of Clinical Research Professional and President of Dignity Washington (2007-2010).
Research interests
- Raymond Panas' research interests are related to the implementation of globalize standards for international clinical development/operations. He is particularly interested in the establishment and impact of regulatory policy on pharmaceutical research activities. His interested include the impact of health economics and pharmacoeconomics on the drug development and approval process.
A key to this research is reviewing the guidelines established through the International Conference on Harmonization and the efforts to expand these guideline as a global regulatory and clinical research standard. Additionally, his research interest in understanding how regulatory policy changes in various countries impact the research activities of the pharmaceutical industry. This includes decisions that regulatory agencies make through the consideration of the health economics and pharmacoeconomics of a drug and how the pharmacuetical industry may react to these policy considerations.
Teaching
- In 2009, Raymond Panas joined The George Washington University as an adjunct professor and in 2010 became an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Research and Leadership at the School of Health Sciences and Medicine. He is also adjunct faculty for Laurate Education online educational programs through Walden University and the University of Liverpool.
