Rakhooo (pronounced "rah-koo"; born November 12, 1996) is an independent musician and composer from Kollam, Kerala, India. Known for blending indie and pop genres with emotionally resonant storytelling, he has collaborated with prominent South Indian musicians like Hip Hop Tamizha, Vaisagh, 6091 etc., and achieved recognition within the Indian independent music industry. He is currently signed with Think Music, one of the major labels in the Indian music industry.

Early Life and Background

Born and raised in Kollam, Kerala, Rakhooo was exposed to music through his father’s extensive cassette collection. This early influence fostered his interest in creating music, which he later developed through self-learning and experimentation.

Career

Rakhooo began his music career in 2016 and quickly gained traction with a unique sound that combines indie, pop, and alternative influences. His major breakthrough[1] came with his collaboration with Think Music, which distributed several of his tracks, including 'Kanavile' (2020) and 'Yaaro' (re-released in 2024). In addition to his solo work, Rakhooo has worked with noted artists such as Hip Hop Tamizha, Vaisagh, 6091, and Kaber Vasuki. His recent release, 'Keerthana' (2024), featured in the Tamil film 'Kadaisi Ulaga Por', further expanded his audience.

Influenced by classic sounds from his father’s collection and contemporary indie trends, his compositions often incorporate a blend of indie and pop elements. His approach to music production is organic, involving an iterative process of recording and refining ideas with producers.[2]

Performances

Rakhooo has performed at notable music festivals, including the Covelong Beach Festival in 2016 and the Neeye Oli concert in Chennai in 2024, where he performed alongside Santhosh Narayan before an audience of 20,000 people.[3]

Future Projects

Rakhooo is currently preparing for the release of a single titled 'Yeno Indru' featuring Anand Kashinath, scheduled for Valentine’s Day 2025. Additionally, he is working on an independent album slated for release in 2027.

Personal Life

Beyond his music, Rakhooo is an avid traveller, often exploring on his motorcycle. He cites personal experiences and emotions as the core inspiration behind his music.
