Achint Thakkar

[edit]

Achint Thakkar is a composer from Mumbai, India. Achint’s music could be described as a hybrid of sorts, heavily influenced by the culture of the Indian subcontinent and western aesthetics of composition and production. Achint composed music for the show ‘Scam 1992 - The Harshad Mehta Story’ which garnered much critical acclaim for depicting the Indian stock market scam that took place in Bombay during the early 90’s. The Title Track of the show has since gone viral nationally and has seeped it’s way into modern Indian pop culture along with the show.[1]

Career

[edit]

Achint released his album Shalimar in 2015. This album has a soundscape firmly rooted in electronica, world music, fusion and a bit of rock. It is cinematic and consists of a prominent flute section, catchy hooks and Carnatic sounds like the Nadaswaram and Shehnai.

In 2018 he released Achint & The Khan Brothers, an album featuring Rajasthani folk singers The Khan Brothers. This album consists of intimate and enchanting arrangements creating a spirited fusion of electronic tempos and folk singing.

Achint collaborated with Hansal Mehta & Jai Mehta for Scam 1992 - The Harshad Mehta Story which was released on Sony Liv in 2020. The title track of this critically acclaimed show went viral on social media and all music streaming platforms.[2]

Rocket Boys was his next project which was directed by Abhay Pannu and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur with Monisha Advani, and Madhu Bhojwani under the banners Roy Kapur Films and Emmay Entertainment, respectively. [3] The score has an interesting mix of orchestral music infused with Indian melodies. [4]

In 2021 Achint for the first time teamed up with director, Vasan Bala for a Netflix Original film, Monica O My Darling. The score and the album taps into a retro Bollywood aesthetic that’s as nostalgic as it is toe-tapping, consisting of euphoric sounds, old-school disco synths and thrilling choruses.[5]

Achint and Vasan collaborated again on his latest theatrical release, Jigra which was produced by Dharma Productions. The lyrics for the soundtrack were written by Varun Grover. Tenu Sang Rakhna, a soulful track from the film was sung by Arijit Singh and Anumita Nadesan.[6]
