Nan Herbert (Born in 1880) was a nurse who was interested in mystical and occult religions. Many people considered her to be independent and resourceful because her many achievements.
Early life and education
[edit]Once she had given away her house in the New Forest that she had inherited to the 'Purple Lotus Mother' of the 'Universal Brotherhood' for a theosophist school. In the early 1900s, she lived in Cuba to be the director of 'Cuba Raja Yoga School'.
Work
[edit]Herbert had trained as a nurse and had used the comfort of her own home to give to wounded soldiers the place and opportunity to tend to their injuries. This was when WW1 broke out and it was one of the best country house hospitals. Nan hired 20 nurses, who she noted in her journal, certain observations about each one of them. She was a matron whenever no one was available to take on that role.
