Bio

[edit]

I'm (1999-present) an adventure-seeker and free spirited young adult who enjoys living here in the great Pacific Northwest. I am a hiker, a dreamer and a passionate Orthodontic Assistant. I'd say I'm outdoors whenever I can be, whether it's going for an 8 mile hike or simply a walk down to the park I love the crisp air here in Washington. I call myself a dreamer because I am constantly thinking of future adventures that may now seem impossible, but I know one day I'll get to achieve that goal, like seeing the Northern Lights. I am an Orthodontic Assistant and love every minute of it, but hope one day to become a very successful Dental Hygienist.

I have used Wikipedia a numerous amount of times in the past years for things in school. Although I have never actually made my own edits on an article, that is something that does interest me. I like the fact that multiple people can all help edit an article to make it the best it can be. If I were to do this, something I would gravitate more towards are articles or pages about famous actors and/or musicians. So far I have not created nor edited any pages on Wikipedia but I hope to in my future.

Article Review

[edit]

For the past few years my mother and oldest sister have been Vegan. This means they do not consume any meat, dairy, or any animal products in general. Living in a household with them and having my mom cook dinner for us almost every night means that I also eat a fair amount of Vegan food. There are a few different types of veganism, one of them being Raw Vegan, this means that as well as eating a vegan diet, they also keep things out of their diet that are possessed, and they avoid food that is cooked at a temperature 118 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. This article interested me because this type of Veganism is not widely talked about, with this being said I visited the Raw Veganism page on Wikipedia and found three aspects of it worth commenting on, the citations aren't thorough, it is not very complete, and I feel it could be more up to date.

Citations

[edit]

Granite there are some citations throughout this article, there are not as many as it could have. When you scroll to the bottom of this article it does have quite a few sources, but they are not towards raw veganism, they just cite sources about Veganism and Vegetarianism. I found that unhelpful because I wanted to explore the facts of being Raw Vegan, not what the article cited. There were also a few facts that the article stated that were not sourced, so if I wanted to know if that was actually true I would need to fact check it, rather then having an easy citation I could just click on from the gecko. If the article added more in-text citations, all of the facts and information from it would be a lot more reliable to others.

Completeness

[edit]

This article is off to a good start but it definitely needs more information about the topic. The research portion is only three sentences long, seeing an article that is so short does not make me think it would be very reliable. Adding to the completeness portion, I feel that the content does not show the pros or cons of becoming Raw Vegan. Down at the bottom of the article it talks more about Veganism and Vegetarianism then it does about Raw Veganism, which the article is supposed to be about. If the article had more information about the topic, it would be more talked about and more known throughout the world, like the article said, it is not talked about worldwide.

Age

[edit]

The article is not very old, but it could use some up-dating. I think that if it was continuously kept up on, it would show to users that it is more reliable. The last edit was made in mid September, so it has not been updated in about a month. Some of the sources date back to the early 2000's, so much has changed since then, giving the article and sources an update would help benefit the users. Keeping things current shows more reliability and would help the article be more effective.

Summary

[edit]

Overall I would rate this article 2.5 stars out of 5, even though it did not have many citations and was a tad outdated, it got straight to the point of what a Raw Vegan was. The citations, completeness and age can all be fixed with the help of myself and other users. I would like to be able to read this article in the future and be able to fact check and have it feel more reliable when reading it.

(With this assignment I also rewrote a sentence in the "Nutritional Considerations" section of this article to make it more clear.)
