Match conditions

[edit]

The match is best of 12 games. Players score 1 point for a win and half a point for a draw. Time control is 120 minutes, with 60 minutes added after move 40, 15 minutes added after move 60, and additional 30 seconds per move starting from move 61. The match ends as soon as any player scores 6.5 points.

Tie break conditions

[edit]

If, after 12 games, the score is equal, up to three rounds of tie breaks will be played. Before each round there will be a new drawing of lots for colors.[1]

  • The first round will be four rapid games, with the players alternating white and black pieces. Time control for these games will be 25 minutes plus 10 seconds per move. If one player scores 2.5 points or more, he is the champion.
  • If the score is still equal after the four rapid games, two blitz games will be played (5 minutes plus 10 seconds per move), each player having white once and black once. If one player scores 1.5 points or more, he is the champion.
  • If the score is still equal after the two blitz games, a single Armageddon game will be played (6 minutes for white, 5 minutes for black, black declared champion in case of a draw).

Tie break conditions

[edit]

Two rounds of tie breakers are in place to resolve a tie. Before each round, there will be a new drawing of lots for colors.

  • The first round will be four rapid games, with the players alternating white and black pieces. Time control for these games will be 25 minutes plus 10 seconds per move. If one player scores 2.5 points or more, then the match is over and the winner is declared champion.
  • The second round will be two blitz games (5 minutes plus 10 seconds per move), each player having white once and black once.

If the score of the second round is a tie (two draws, or one win and one loss for each player), then a decisive Armageddon game will be played. The conditions of this final game are that white is given 6 minutes and black will only be given 5 minutes. However black is declared champion in case of a draw, which puts the burden to win on white who has the advantage of the first move, and an extra minute of time on his clock[2]. A drawing of lots will determine each player's color for this final game.

Discussion

[edit]

First of all, the phrase "if a person scores 1.5 points or more" is redundant, because the only other way to win is 2 points. 1.5 points or more, when it can only be more than 1.5 in a single circumstance i.e. 2>1.5 and that's the only time it happens. in contrast to more games in a round, then the phrase "or more" is meaningful and makes better sense to use

the phrase "if the score is still equal after the two blitz games" is redundant because that can only happen if (two draws, or one win and one loss for each player) which I put in parenthesis, and it is more of a summary/encyclopaedic style, and not a mathematical style if the sum of the games exceed N/2 and a played has N/2 + .5, then result = champion
