From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Setanta College offers accredited sports and coaching study programmes through distance learning and the internet, while also providing the traditional route of campus based learning. The College is headed by one of Ireland’s most distinguished and successful coaching and fitness expert – Dr Liam Hennessy. Dr. Hennessy has worked extensively in individual and team sports, he is a sports physiologist and was National Fitness Director of the IRFU. He is currently fitness adviser and coach to Pádraig Harrington on strength and conditioning.[1]

Setanta College was launched in July 2007 and has had many graduates with distinguished sporting backgrounds.[2] The College continues to broaden its range of nationally and internationally accredited practical coaching courses.

Courses are for all sports and aimed at team management personnel, trainers, coaches, players and athletes. Courses range from weekend practical courses to the full HETAC approved degree.[3] All courses use the blended learning process which mixes lecture attendance at home on computer, participation at practical workshops, uploading of assignments, multiple choice questionnaires and projects directly from home.

The Gaelic Players Association (GPA) and the Irish Rugby Union Players Association IRUPA provide promotional and advisory support to Setanta College through their membership and encouragement of players nearing retirement to undertake College courses. The Tipperary Institute provides technical web expertise and course hosting facilities to the College.[4]
