Working with Wikipedia at Wayne State University
At WSU, I included an assignment in which students created a Wikipedia entry for a notable figure in US library science. You can find information about that here: Library Leaders project
Please note: The purpose of the course was not to master Wikipedia editing or markup, but to understand the tools, technologies, and professional ethics that guide librarianship. For most students, this was their first experience with a markup language. In the context of the course, I could not force students to comply perfectly with Wikipedia's guidelines for editing and using markup. However, the project was largely successful, and for most students, memorable.
