AIDE

AIDE stands for AXE Integrated Development Environment. The main purpose of this New Eclipse framework is to modernize the existing toolbox environment for AXE. Using a commercial off the shelf frame work like Eclipse will make the development environment more efficient than the existing. It will also allow easy integration of existing tools. The level of integration of the tools can be chosen to fit each in the most cost efficient way.

Integrating Existing Tools In AIDE

Eclipse offers an integrated development environment with a number of built-in features and is an open source initiative. The entire AIDE concept consists of plug-ins that interacts with each other and custom plug-ins can easily be created and installed. A prototype (initially called IDEA) has been developed by EDB that contains a subset of needed APSTools.

Plug-in

A plug-in connects with a universe of other plug-ins to form a running application. The best software analogy compares a plug-in to an object in object-oriented programming. A plug-in, like an object, is an encapsulation of behavior and/or data that interacts with other plug-ins to form a running program.
