Activity 2 - From Scratch

Find an article on a topic that you are interested in or are knowledgeable about. Have a look at the first substantial edit on that page through its revision history.

If you had created this article first - what would you have done differently? If you were the second reader, how would you have edited the article? Write up your thoughts on your user page (100-200 words is plenty).

Article: Orangutan

1st Edit: 22nd August 2001

The first thing I noticed upon reading the first edit of this article is the lack of information. There are five short lines written with poor grammar. After reading these lines, the only knowledge I gained was a general definition of what an Orangutan is, it's appearance, the meaning of the word and how it is pronounced. There are also no sources or professional definitions. If I were to edit this page or write it for the first time, I would have firstly added a picture of an Orangutan, then began with a professionally written definition- it’s scientific species name, where they are based, the sub-species of Orangutan. The original edit also has no sense of structure- I would insert sub-headings where under each I would write about topics such as history, behaviour, endangerment, and anatomy, giving an uneducated reader a clear and comprehensive idea about what the Orangutan is, and every other sub-topic.

Week 6 Seminar Activity

[edit]

Last week's activity was extremely helpful as it allowed me to gain a better understanding of how I should structure my draft page when submitting my assignment. I learnt how to reference on wikipedia as well as how to add subheadings, hyperlinks and in text citations, and my tutor showed us how we should structure our draft page and what type of information to include.
