Hi I am in London and teach mathematics at LSE. I am interested in promoting the contributions of more than Greeks to the mathematics we do today. Today, 8th October, is my first time editing a Wiki.
Mathematics rules the world [1]
I am fascinated by the interplay between societies interests / philosophy and the mathematics that is developed.
for example it was religious requirements which led to the Śulba Sūtras a list rules for the construction of sacrificial fire altars. this mathematics includes "the earliest extant verbal expression of the Pythagorean Theorem in the world"
I am interested in expressions of infinity and the Indians used their Gods to give a sense of the infinite - take a cube with sides as long as a god can run, filled with the smallest of lambswool and consider how long it would take to take out each lambswool one by one.
The Jains were the first to discard the idea that all infinities were the same or equal
