User:SMcCandlish/Logs/Cite cleanup pain – why WP needs a single citation style

This page in a nutshell: I've started logging major cleanup "chores" (nightmares) necessitated by the fact that citation styles clique has thwarted every attempt to set a consistent citation style – like every other major publisher on the planet has – to suit their petty "my field's citation quirks are better than yours" junk-waving. This really needs to end. We already have a citation style that about 99% of our editors use, and which does useful things (like COinS) that others do not. It should be made the standard. |
I've done probably at least 100 major cleanups like the ones below; I just didn't start this log until my 12th year here.
- 2018-06-07 cleanup of Cat. This took about 5 hours (counting the substantive stuff too, including some copyediting, fixing outright broken or erroneous cites, etc.; but 95% of it was normalizing to a consistent citation format in absence of one, per WP:CITEVAR).
