From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Honda SL125 is about the Honda motorsport or enduro street legal dirt bike. It was made for 3 consecutive years: K0 in 1971, K1 in 1972 and the K2 in 1973. The SL series was produced to bridge the gap between the smaller SL100 and the larger SL175. It had a 122cc single bore, OHC, four stroke engine that produced 12 HP @ 9700 RPM. The weight was 238 pounds and could go up to 63 MPH depending upon the loading. The gearbox was 5 speed on a 15/49 tooth front/back sprocket set. There were minor changes from the K0-K2 models that were reflected in the gauges, tail light assembly, side covers. The available colors offered: from metallic blue and cobalt green for the K0, to one offering of metallic silver and black for both the K1 and K2 models. Their were two market versions, one for the US market and the other for the rest of the world. The primary differences were in the: muffler, seat hold on strap, and turn signals.

The SL125 was considered slightly under powered compared to other motorsports at the time, but was highly successful due to its sleek design and 4 stroke engine. Today the SL125 is very collectible and many are still in running condition, a testament to the quality and durability. Similar modern enduros are more powerful but make much more use of plastic for the fenders, side covers, and fuel tank. The SL125 commands attention where ever it goes because it is a street legal dirt bike that has an all steel body work design. A classic which can command 5 or times its original cost today.
