User:Ryan Vesey/Thoughts on template lesson

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I am creating this page in order to create my response to Worm That Turned's template lesson Post test comments This was the first lesson in which I have had zero experience in. I have occasionally needed to edit some parameters or create workarounds in templates but this is confusing. I made a slight modification to the wording in number four. I assumed this would be easier because I have had experiences with if, then, else functions in microsoft excel but this is much more confusing. The first multiple times I tried, I kept editing my answers to one, two, and three. I noticed that your advanced templates lesson shows a red link, but I would like to take it if you have one prepared. Please reply here to this transcluded template. I'm fairly certain that I could've found a much more simple way to do number four. I think I am going to create a second version of the page (so as not to screw up my previous answers) and try it, if I get a chance. Ryan Vesey (talk) 03:57, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
There is also some more helpful information at User:Worm That Turned/Adopt/Template beginner. I do need to rewrite the template lesson and write a more advanced version, but just don't seem to have the time. :) There are a few ways to do part 4, depending if you want to hard code the extra text or pass it in. I'll let you keep playing, let me know when you want to move on. WormTT · (talk) 07:55, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
I read the information at User:Worm That Turned/Adopt/Template beginner and it helped a lot. I don't think that I am going to change my template answers. My only other idea was to add an un-named parameter, but that would require me to type the information on the adoption page anyways. Ryan Vesey (talk) 12:55, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
