Rosa Luxemburg who was a German Socialist turned Communist, who opposed World War I from the beginning, and who also sharply criticized the Bolsheviks for their suppression of the Constituent Assembly in January 1918, has been murdered in 1919. The most famous quotation in her critical essay on the Bolshevik revolution (Die russische Revolution. Eine kritische Würdigung) is: "Freedom only for the members of the government, only for the members of the Party — though they are quite numerous — is no freedom at all. Freedom is always the freedom of dissenters."
