Do you think the page should be protected from anon users? That would cut down on at least some of the vandalism. JTRH (talk) 16:09, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

It's the same IP address that keeps adding the same stuff over and over again. A block on that particular IP would help, but I think protection is the way to go for a while. Rollosmokes (talk) 16:33, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Get A Life

[edit]

It seems that you spend a hell of a lot of time editing. Don't you have anything better to do. There are about 2 dozen articles that you make daily changes on. 90 % of these changes are UNESSESSARY. Sometimes its over one "stupid" word. Other times its accurate information. It seems to me that you have taken a few articles and claimed them as your own. Well they are not your own. The only time you should change something is if information is not accurate, bad grammar, sloppy form, or outright vandalism. By the way editing an article repeatedly is NOT vandalism. Vandalism is putting innacurate information, cutting overwelming amounts of info for the sake of upseting someone, putting defaming information, speculative info on people mentioned in an article. Merely stating facts (redundant or not) does not constitute vandalism. Also anyone may edit an article once a day. When I last checked it was three times a day as the limit.

One thing that boggles my mind is how you have so much time to look at your 2 dozen articles and revert edits. It seems in one day you corrected about 15 articles, several multiple times. This takes up alot of time. If I inded had the time to deal with you I would declare an outright editing war. But I have no time to do such stuff. I have more important things to deal with in life. I would think you would to. You agravate me to no end not just with correcting my edits but everyone else's as well. Even people who work at some of these places have expressed similar thoughts. I have read at least 5 or 6 other editors that have complained about your posessive attitude.

On one hand, its great you have such a passion for quality (and you do know how to write well), but you act as if your belief is the only way. You GO WAY OVERBOARD (and on TV stations you dont even watch in some cases). You have too much time on your hands. By the way the person above me has come to the same conclusion about you. And they also did not vandalise. You have managed to piss off quite a few people here. Even with your knowledge, I think we would be better off without you and your arrogance.

THATS ALL!!!!

It should be known that many of us here, including Rollosmokes, have lives of our own beyond Wikipedia; it's that there are too many neer-do-wells to police, which eat up time to do other things. Furthermore, the 3-edit rule is for reverts only -- you can edit an article as many times as you want, otherwise. -- azumanga (talk) 00:34, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
I wasn't going to respond to this sour grapes comment from (just guessing) Marckd. But now I will: Marckd, once you learn to stop adding trivial and redundant detail to articles such as WTXX, then I'll take you seriously. Thanks for having my back, Azumanga. Rollosmokes (talk) 07:49, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello, in regards to this edit you shouldn't remove an unreferenced template until sources have been added. Also, the link for WRAL-FM should not be removed either since readers might be looking for the radio article instead. Thanks. APK yada yada 06:41, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

I have contacted PhilKnight for mediation

[edit]

I have contacted a third party on this issue. DMA are already in brackets by COL on the State lists. I do not understand the problem but I feel I have a valid argument on this and will take it up with others. Oak999 (talk) 05:19, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

I didn't know the founder of Nike was a Wikipedia user! Anyway, how can you complain when you once again reverted back to a version of the NBC state affiliate list that contains a glaring omission, one which I recorrected thrice and you undid four times. You can't complain about someone else's work when your own house isn't in order. So if you want to go there, "Just Do It". Rollosmokes (talk) 05:29, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

If you made some other edit to the page that I reverted back other then having that "and Designated Market Area in parentheses when the COL is different then the DMA." I offer my apology. Not all stations COL are to its anchor city in DMA. As I have told you before the FCC did channel allocations back in the 50s before power boosts for TV and radio stations. Most people are not going to know where "orange park" Florida is which is the COL for WJXX. But its DMA is Jacksonville (its the anchor city). The lists on Affiliates by State already have DMA in them when the COL is different. All I have stated is that it be clear in the paragraph so people know what they are looking at. Where is the problem? Oak999 (talk) 05:45, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

You're still missing the point -- why did you delete accurate information, specifically KPNX from the NBC list? You still haven't answered that, yet you continue to make your case for this "problem" in the state lists. There was no problem here until you created it. Rollosmokes (talk) 05:48, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Delete KPNX from the list? I do not recall doing that and if I did it would have to be by accident. I have reverted back the NBC list to what you had it so any ifo you had or corrections will be added. I also added what I stated. Hopefully this will clear this up. Oak999 (talk) 05:51, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

I have again asked for assistance in mediation on this issue. Since you have included DMA cities the ones in brackets it needs to be clear WHAT they are at the top of the paragraph of the article for those people who may not know. If the DMAs are removed then fine. But for some people they may ask "why Jacksonville is in brackets next to WJXX when its COL is Orange Park" for just one instance of many on these affiliates by state articles. Again you have not clarified that. You say this information is not needed. I think when you put other cities OTHER then the COL on the list but do not clarify WHAT they are thats a issue. Template:Infobox Broadcast

[edit]

If you do not understand how templates work, don't edit them. You have repeatedly moved the final channel assignments for TV over top of the temporary ones. This is breaking things. --66.46.167.154 (talk) 17:09, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

FYI, I understand how they work. I also know how discussion and consensus work, and you haven't listened to either. Don't try reverse psychology on me, because it won't work. Rollosmokes (talk) 17:53, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Just wanted to remind you to watch this while editing Template:Infobox Broadcast. I don't want to see a good editor blocked. Dusticomplain/compliment 18:11, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for that. Rollosmokes (talk) 18:13, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I agree that WP:RPP isn't the place for discussing disputes, but there's really no reason to continue to delete the IP's comments. I'd suggest just ignoring it for now. The template will or won't be protected regardless of his input on that page. --OnoremDil 18:28, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Ditto, I was getting ready to leave you another message about that. I also left a note on the IP's talk page. That could turn into another 3RR issue, and if you want Admin's to see things your way, then I would act maturley about it, instead of removing notes left by other users. Dusticomplain/compliment 18:30, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree. I'll just let the IP fall flat face-first by itself. Rollosmokes (talk) 18:31, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

DTV transition

[edit]

I notice that you are continuing to engage in a revert war in order to remove information concerning the upcoming 2009 US DTV transition from hundreds of individual television station articles. If you continue, the chances are high that instead of accurate data in these pages at the end of transition, there will be wrong data or even contradictory data. I've had to repair countless pages which were displaying nonsense like "Channel analog 9 (VHF) digital 9 (VHF)" because of your repeated and unconstructive edits to {{Infobox Broadcast}} and individual station articles. You've responded by continuing revert wars and by accusing anyone who attempts to repair the damage you've done of being WP:SOCKS. I've moved the issue to RFC here and raised the issues related to WP:3RR and your repeated vandalism of userpages with unsubstantiated WP:SOCK allegations here. Please stop editing Wikipedia disruptively. --carlb (talk) 13:22, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Except that what you are doing has not been discussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television Stations. Before you add any substantial material such as new infoboxes and categories, you must bring it up with us first. For failure to do so, you, carlb, may be the one in hot water. -- azumanga (talk) 23:19, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

NBC affiliates

[edit]

Please do not revert to previous change, please check KXAS-TV, WESH and KNTV main articles. The specific cities for NBC stations are KXAS-TV in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, KNTV in San Jose, San Francisco and Oakland and WESH in Orlando and Daytona Beach, Florida. I did not make any vandals. I make sure to put the specific cities on the three NBC stations. If you check the KXAS-TV article and says Dallas as a specific city and includes Fort Worth, then check the WESH article and if it says Orlando as a specific city that includes Daytona Beach, and finally check the KNTV article for San Francisco and Oakland as the specific cities for KNTV including San Jose, California, those were also specific cities, too. If you check the 3 NBC station articles and the specific cities were correct, I would've fix the cities to make it specific. I didn't made vandalism. You make me feelin' upset. Please check KXAS-TV, WESH and KNTV for these correct specific cities including the regular cities. Steam5 (talk) 05:13, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

KCBS-TV and Lantana11

[edit]

I have deleted all messages related to a confilct between myself and Lantana11, which got out of hand when the aforementioned user took a content-related comment about KCBS-TV and the definition of flagship television stations way too personal.

The reason: after I constructively explained why edits made to WCBS-TV by an unregistered IP were incorrect ([1]), he then used both a registered username (originally "Nickfaitos" but later changed to Lantana11) and the IP to make the revertions several times over, labeling me as a "vandal" twice ([2], [3]) for flipping them over. I did what we are encouraged to do and commented on content, not editors. But Lantana11 crossed the line. New user or not, he should have chosen his words differently. All Lantana11 wanted to do, in my opinion, was to prove a point, and he used the KCBS-TV article to do it again under the guise of "factual information". When I saw what had been done, I reverted the article back to the previous edition, minus the incorrect references and useless over-expansion ([4]). He then decided that I was "picking on him" and went running for help.

Lantana went to five neutral editors, all of whom have no knowledge or interest in TV station articles -- SilkTork, Tomeasy, JeremyMcCracken, Asher196, and MBisanz -- and accused me of being uncivil, and then whined to several other editors about me stalking him. Of these five, only SilkTork was decent enough to hear my side of the story, and offered to mediate. I offered to work with Lantana, but only as long as he understood and stayed within the lines of consensus on television station articles, and only within WP:TVS and not one-on-one. After I left a message on SilkTork's talk page, he replied that he was "disappointed" that I chose not to work with Lantana11. But, at the same time, I could show some compassion aftet Lantana went out of his way to "apologize" to me. In my opinion, the apology came much too late.

My motto for dealing with others here is simple: I will not patronize anyone who labels me as a "vandal". Then he accused me of being a stalker after I labelled him as a sockpuppet for using an unregistered IP instead of his registered name. That's sockpuppetry, and there's no way around it. He ran to SilkTork, who claimed I was "walking a very fine line" for stalking Lantana. Tomeasy left a useless note here admonishing me for my "rude" behavior. I have let this go, as I have ceased direct contact to Lantana11 since he called me a vandal. But Lantana is the one who hasn't let it go. He has stayed on the defensive, playing the victim role while slandering me and painting me as a Wiki-bully. Enough is enough.

Good-bye and good luck to all who got caught up in this mess, thanks to Lantana11. Have fun babysitting him for a while. But, should I see him use articles to prove his point again, I will not hesitate to correct him. Rollosmokes (talk) 16:33, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi again. May I suggest, to prevent possible conflict, that if you wish to correct Lantana11 that you first get in touch with me to discuss the situation. You will note in my communications with Lantana11 that I have been from the start advising him to edit away from TV Stations article, and that if he does decide to edit TV Stations articles that he should only do so with credible sources. He appears willing to follow my advise, so I should be disappointed if he made inappropriate edits to any TV Stations articles. A brief period waiting for my response could save weeks of hassle! Regards SilkTork *YES! 17:48, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
You won't have to worry about that, because I don't plan to contact him in the future. Rollosmokes (talk) 18:09, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

User pages

[edit]

Rollo, I reverted your changes to User:Wtvg1. It's not appropriate to edit userpages for content, because even if it is just fancruft, there is nothing there that violates WP:NOT. You're already defending yourself against charges of being overly aggressive - why start more trouble? For the most part, I don't think this user is editing in good faith either, but his userspace should be off limits unless it contains a personal attack, in which case you could seek to have him blocked for harrassment. dhett (talk contribs) 23:22, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

We as a group have enough problems with editors to deal with, so the last thing we need is someone who is just a fancruft-dumper. But, I'll leave if alone and just deal with the content of his edits. Rollosmokes (talk) 05:50, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Personally, if he's not dumping the fancruft in TV articles, I don't give a rat's rear end what he's doing. As you aptly put it, we have enough problems with editors, so if he has to screw around with his own user page, more power to him. All the loonies seem to have come out of the woodwork lately - what the devil is in the water? dhett (talk contribs) 06:46, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
If only I'd knew. Then I'd be a millionaire. Rollosmokes (talk) 07:28, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Friendly reminder about talk page messages

[edit]

Hello. As a recent editor at User talk:66.102.80.212, I wanted to leave you a friendly reminder that as per WP:USER, editors may remove messages at will from their own talk page. While we may prefer that messages be archived, policy does not prohibit users -including anonymous users- from deleting comments from their own talk pages. The only talk page messages that may not be removed (as per WP:BLANKING) are declined unblock requests (but only while blocks are still in effect), confirmed sockpuppetry notices, or shared IP header templates (for anonymous editors) ... and these exceptions are just to keep a user from gaming the system. --Kralizec! How are my edits vandalism?

[edit]

I'm just adding a bit of trivia for the pages about TV stations. I've recently become interested in the old Group W since I used to watch KPIX in San Francisco, which was a Group W station. Apparently, Rollo does not like it when someone with Asperger's Syndrome likes to edit the pages as I picture them in my head. I'm not doing any harm adding some trivia here or there, as long as it's legit. When ABC signed a deal with Scripps in 1994 displacing WJZ in Baltimore, how was that not betrayal? Anyway, I guess Rollo is a bit closed minded when it comes to broadcasting articles, so I better just let it go. I didn't want to make an enemy out of him, but it seems that's the case.

By the way, Rollo, what is with your screen name? If your user page says you don't smoke, why did you pick the name Rollosmokes? Just wondering.Godgundam10 (talk) 11:59, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Adding trivia is trivial in most cases. Specifically, the "trivia" you added in the articles you edit is trivial, and is also redundant as well.
BTW, what makes you assume that I'm close-minded? You know what they say about those who assume things they know nothing about. Not to mention that it's a personal attack on an editor that is not content-related, so you'd better think twice before contacting me again on any subject. Rollosmokes (talk) 07:12, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

It was not intended to be an attack against, but if it did, then I am really sorry that upset you. But apparently, you seem to know a lot about broadcasting as you have edited several articles about the topic. Anyway, I promise I will be more careful about my choice of words. You actually seem a nice guy and I hope we can try to be accuaintinces. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Godgundam10 (talkcontribs) 07:20, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello,

My name is Brenton Stewart. I am an African American, doctoral student at the University of Wisconsin- Madison in Library & Information Studies. Currently I am conducting a study on the motivational factors of African American Wikipedians. I am asking for your help by participating in this short online survey which will take take approximately 5 minutes to complete. Please feel free to distribute to other Black Wikipedians. The survey will be available from Tuesday July 1, 2008 until Tuesday August 5, 2008. Thank you so much for your participation.

The WB, The CW

[edit]

Please do not revert the mentions I have corrected back to the proper form in the infoboxes. While you have a point on grammatical use in a sentence, uses in infoboxes are titles/and or proper names - and in these cases (and as you've been told before), the proper name/title of these networks is "The CW" and "The WB". You comments about grammar in these cases is in error, and I ask that you stop changing them back, in violation of the established consensus *against* your opinion. TheRealFennShysa (talk) 15:50, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

I would also remind you of this edit, which you yourself cited once as reason to stay with the correct use of "The CW and "The WB". Please stop changing back to an incorrect usage. TheRealFennShysa (talk) 17:04, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

please avoid an edit war

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on WPIX. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. Kingturtle (talk) 17:06, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Don't hate the player, hate the game...

[edit]

I never disappeared. Just spent the past couple of days tending to my non-Wikified life before heading to Kennedy Airport to see my wife off to Ghana.

One at a time, because I can't type to more than one person simultaneously:

GET A LIFE. Your efforts to push your DTV transition changes were tharthed because you refused to discuss them with the Wikiproject TV Stations group and kept making the changes. I outed you as a sock because...well, that's what you are. You certainly have something against me because I put a stop to you, culminating with the deletion of your Template:Infobox DTV creation. Don't bring up other "problems" when your own house isn't in order. My advice to you: Get over yourself and leave me the heck alone.

I have said this before, and will obviously say it again until I'm BLUE IN THE FACE: The word the is a proper noun that only requires capitalization when it begins a sentence. (While this edit shows I did not think this at first, I was corrected of this after more research.) The CW Television Network may be the name of a business entity, but it should not be treated the same way as titles of television shows, books, or movies whose titles begin with The. Therefore, to say "WPIX is an affiliate of The CW Television Network" is still NOT PROPER GRAMMAR.

It is also not required to tack on the word in the title's short form, thus "The CW 11" is not correct either. Just because the word The is included in the logo doesn't mean it should be written literally as such. The same goes with MyNetworkTV, which should be written with the proper spaces between the words (and should be read as "My Network TV").

Lastly, the fact that an editor suspected to be a IP abuser brought about this BS is a joke. My edits have been primarily accurate and well-written, and have been well-received by most editors. I have no tolerance for innacuracy of any kind, whether it be grammatical or factual, and I have even less patience for vandalism. I have only labeled edits as vandalism when I feel it truly is, or unless it shows up repeatedly. We should all be focusing on proper writing style and grammar if we want Wikipedia to be taken more seriously by the mainstream. That has been, and will continue to be, one of my mottos. If you all don't agree with that, that's cool.

Perhaps it's jealousy on the part of these folks who can't handle someone who's a better writer, but I don't know. I will admit to being a tad rough on the edges, but that's just my style. I'm not here to please everyone, and I will offer no apologies for that. Rollosmokes (talk) 22:53, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Wkyc-kywtv-1956.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Wkyc-kywtv-1956.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:57, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Edit warring warning

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Upon review of the ip editors comments, I saw no personal attack. However, I would caution you that falsely accusing another contributor of making a personal attack is itself a personal attack, although in this case I shall AGF that you just misunderstood policy. LessHeard vanU (talk) 15:12, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Please see WP:Talk#Others comments. You should only remove other contributors comments with their permission unless it falls under certain criteria. You are (still) claiming "personal attacks", which is allowable per the above, but - as I mentioned before - these comments do not fall under that heading; They are part of a dispute between you and the other editor. You may refute or ignore the comments but you must not remove them. If you do you will likely be blocked from editing Wikipedia, either for violating WP:Talk or WP:3RR.
If you are in dispute with an editor you can try the various methods of dispute resolution, and report the matter of suspected sock abuse to WP:SSP (although editing while logged out of a user account is permitted unless it is for sinister reasons). In short, excusing yourself by pointing out the other parties poor behaviour does not work - you are responsible for ensuring you keep to the rules. LessHeard vanU (talk) 21:30, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
