Ambitions as a Wikipedian

[edit]

After using Wikipedia as a reference for a long time, I want to put something back. However, my knowledge is generally not encyclopedic. Accordingly, I am currently aiming to add purely factual information about the works of some of the novelists whose work I have enjoyed, taken from my copies of the books in question.

Most recently I've edited the stub for The Priestley, with which I've been involved, on and off, for some 4 decades.

That's no longer true - I've just inserted a page for Glyn Watkins who publishes as Bradwan.

In two cases, Marazan and So Disdained, I have given verbatim quotations of the 'Author's Note' printed in the books. I think that this qualifies as Fair use, since a) the aim is non-profit education - informing Wikipedia readers; b) the value of these is that they give the author's own comments on the books, in his own words - something that cannot be achieved by any paraphrasing; c) the amount is insubstantial - a single introductory page that isn't part of the work itself; and d) if there is any effect at all upon the potential market for the copyright works, it must surely be positive - increasing interest in the work. Nevertheless, I'm a novice here; comment upon whether my view is justified or not would be most welcome.
