Shape anisotropy is a type of magnetic anisotropy in ferromagnets with a single magnetic domain. It is the dependence of magnetic energy on the direction of the magnetic moment when there is no magnetic field from an external source. This energy is lowest when the moment is aligned with the longest axis of the ferromagnet. Shape anisotropy is often the largest anisotropy in small ferromagnets.
