An entrepreneur and strategic thinker, Hannigan's administrative leadership supports the development and implementation of responsive, nimble, and transdisciplinary academic, research, and service programs designed to foster the generation of new knowledge, the communication of that knowledge to the people who need it most, and the activation of that knowledge to make positive changes for our planet and its people.

Known for her innovative approaches to academic program development and her passion for higher education and dedication to diversity in both people and discipline, her leadership has transformed the institutions in which she serves.  Beyond her academic roles she is a prolific researcher who translated her spirit for invention into two start-up companies (GeoMed Analytical[5] and Hyphenated Solutions[6]) as well as generated over $30M in external funding and over 100 peer-reviewed publications.

Hannigan's acumen for strategic public- partnerships fosters sustainable, intellectually engaging, and revenue generating programming enhancing student retention, graduation, and placement across all programs and demographics.  She speaks globally about the emerging role of academia in the entrepreneurship ecosystem and the centrality of diversity in building vibrant academic programs.

Her abiding appreciation of our Earth led me to the University of Rochester where she earned my PhD in Earth and Environmental Sciences.  She's led, and continues to serve in a variety of capacities, University and start-up boards as well as state and federal agency committees.
