This template shows the number of articles formerly featured on Did you know that have gone on to become either featured articles, featured lists, or good articles.
Technical details
[edit]The numbers in this table are derived from the numbers in the following categories (using the magic word {{PAGESINCATEGORY:}}):
- Category:Wikipedia Did you know articles that are featured articles
- Category:Wikipedia Did you know articles that are featured lists
- Category:Wikipedia Did you know articles that are good articles
In turn, these categories are populated by the template {{ArticleHistory}} that is present in the talk pages of good and featured content. (In short, if the ArticleHistory data shows both a date when the article was featured on DYK, and a line saying the article is currently an FA, FL, or GA, the template adds the text [[Category:Wikipedia Did you know articles that are X]]
to the talk page, which causes the article to be included in the category).
Because of this, there are several reasons that an article which meets the criteria (has been featured on DYK, and is now an FA, FL, or GA) might not show up in the categories:
- The talk page does not have the {{ArticleHistory}} template, but only has the {{DYKtalk}} template (this is true of some Good Articles; they are supposed to be updated to {{ArticleHistory}} when they are promoted, but this does not always happen).
- The talk page has not been edited in a long time; since {{ArticleHistory}} is transcluded in talk pages and edits to transcluded templates don't show up until the page it's on gets edited (or until the it gets recached during server downtime; see the explanation here), if an article's talk page has not had any edits since this table was implemented then the article might not be showing up in the appropriate category.
Changes
[edit]The template {{ArticleHistory}} is maintained by Gimmetrow. If you are interested in having a new class of articles added to this table, it is done by updating the code in {{ArticleHistory}}; first, however, you should start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Did you know raising your proposal.
