[edit]

Rajat was born on December 11, 1980, in a small city in Uttar Pradesh, India, called Bulandshahar. He was the first born son of his generation in his family, his father being the second eldest of his siblings.

His father, Mr. Anil Kumar Mishra, is an IPS (Indian Police Service) officer, and was posted in Bulandshahar at that time, it being his first posting after joining as a Deputy Superintendent of Police in UP Cadre PPS (Provincial Police Service). Mr A. K. Mishra, is a M.A.(History) and LLB from the Allahabad University.

His mother, Mrs. Rani Mishra, is a housewife, and is the one primarily responsible for his upbringing.

He has a younger sister, Neha Mishra, who is 3 years younger to Rajat, and has done her MA and MPhil (Linguistics) from JNU. She is now doing her PhD, to continue her education in the same field.

Rajat did not recieve any formal primary education, due to the transferable nature of his fathers job, and most of his education came from his mother, and in bits and pieces from attending various school for a small period of time, ranging from a week to a couple of months, at most.

In 1985, for the sake of his education, his father willingly opted for a deputation in CBI, in Lucknow, for 3 years.

In his first ever entrance interview, Rajat failed miserably, as he did not know one word in english, and the Principal of the chosen school flatly refused to admit him in class I, remarking, "The kid has a lot to catch up. He doesn't know one word in English, and you expect him to come up at the same level as with the other kids, already learning english for 2/3 years? He will be lucky if he passes Kindergarten in the first go."
