GO株式会社 Inc. (English: GO Inc.) is a Japanese ride-hailing and taxi company headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, that provides the "GO" app and engages in taxi-related business. It also holds licenses for travel and employment agencies. Its largest shareholders are Nihon Kotsu and DeNA.[1] The company was previously known as JapanTaxi Co., Ltd., and Mobility Technologies Co., Ltd., and it rebranded itself on 1 April 2023 to match the name of its flagship app.

Overview

[edit]

GO Inc. operates within the travel and vehicle-for-hire industry throughout Japan, including taxi services, with a focus on the ride-hailing app "GO". It was established in 1977 as a subsidiary of Nihon Kotsu's computer systems branch (Nihon Kotsu Calculation Center Co., Ltd., and from 1992, Nihon Kotsu Data Services Co., Ltd.)

In 2010, GO Inc. began developing and providing taxi dispatch apps such as "National Taxi Dispatch" for operators throughout Japan. As competition in the app market grew, the company changed its name to JapanTaxi Co., Ltd., in 2015, and the app became "JapanTaxi" in 2018.

The current structure was established in 2020, when GO Inc. merged with DeNA's MOV division, which provided the taxi dispatch app "MOV", and changed its name to Mobility Technologies Co., Ltd. It began developing its own dispatch app based on "MOV" and named it "GO" within the same year.[2]

On 1 April 2023, the company became GO Inc.[3] On 24 November 2023, GO Inc. moved its headquarters to Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower.[4]

[edit]
GO Reserve car (Hello Tokyo)

GO Reserve is a vehicle that operates only upon order from GO. It is a Toyota Japan Taxi with a blue-based special wrapping, and the driver is called GO Crew . [ 15 ] There is no company name display lamp (andon) or external display (super sign), but instead, an "APP only" display is installed at the top of the front window.

The employment status of the drivers is different from that of regular taxi drivers, and they are able to work on an hourly wage and short shifts . The company started this service to address the situation where drivers are unable to take all GO orders during rush hour in urban areas due to the continued labor shortage caused by the traditional employment status . [ 16 ]

Partner companies are responsible for vehicle operation and crew employment, and GO only acts as an employment intermediary. Crew uniforms are limited to navy blue collarless jackets (provided). Reserve vehicles are only dispatched for GO orders that are set with GO Pay and a drop-off location, and are expected to be less than a certain distance. Orders cannot be made with a reserved vehicle . [ 17 ]

Based on this project, a comprehensive partnership agreement has already been signed with Odawara City, and several taxi companies, including Ebara Transportation in Setagaya Ward [ 21 ] and Nihon Kotsu Yokohama in Odawara City [ 22 ] , are managing the operation of electric taxis.
