The Young Senators, who toured with Kendricks and played on People...Hold On.

In 1971, Kendricks discovered the Washington D.C. band The Young Senators, who had formed in 1965 and had just released their debut single, "Jungle." After meeting the band’s leader, Jimi Dougans, Kendricks asked if they would be interested in becoming his backing band on tour, and Dougans agreed without consulting the other members."[1] Kendricks and The Young Senators toured extensively and began working on his next album, which was recorded at the Hitsville U.S.A. studio. This album, People...Hold On, released in May 1972, became Kendricks’ breakout album and was the last recorded at Hitsville U.S.A. before Motown’s move to Los Angeles.
