Callweaver

[edit]

I was a little surprised at the decision to delete CallWeaver - After the "Reposted ... to reach consensus" section there were 2 votes to keep vs 3 to delete from regular wikipedia contributors this seems to be somewhat short of a consensus - to quote your own comment above "No Consensus means the article is kept anyways". Terrymr 19:48, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

You closed the debate as a "delete." I see delete arguments along the lines of "cruft is bad" and "idontlikeit" while there were as many editors noting that popular culture is the only realm of this unfortunate train engineer, and that the original song, the Joe Hill labor movement version, the Grateful Dead version, and perhaps the World War 1/military marching obscene version are each individually notable. Please take another look and see if a "no consensus" or "merge" (actually "smerge") outcome isn't more appropriate. If the bio article about Casey Jones came up for deletion, the only rationale argument for keeping it would be his place in popular culture. I see this as an unfortunate casualty of the overreaction to the large number of "popular culture" mentions of something/someone who was notable in the first place. Mr. Jones was utterly nonnotable as a dead engineer until the first version of the song was written, and the article about him, without the popular culture items, would need to be deleted as a memorial/genealogical article. The "owners" of that article apparently do not want the songs/TV show/carton in it. I would appreciate a copy of the article added as a subpage to my userpage. Please let me know of your decision so I know how to proceed. Thanks. Edison 22:11, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Here is the subpage, User:Edison/Casey Jones what I saw was mostly trivia, and very bad trivia, nothing thats really savagable. I recommend placing the three things you mentioned to the Casey Jones article, which is fairly bad and you should work on it, and I will undelete the article and redirect it per the GFDL. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 22:50, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Jake Presutti deletions

[edit]

I endorse your suggestion 100% to delete the Jake Presutti article, however bundling so many different personalities together in one deletion debate virtually dooms any possibility of a consensus. Would you be opposed at withdrawing this nomination and then re-listing them separately? Burntsauce 16:53, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

I also endorse your suggestion to delete the Jake Presutti article. However, it seems there is so much clutter on that page due to your mass nomination for AfD that things are getting tangled up. From what I can see, there is a consensus to delete Presutti, but to keep the rest of the team. Please contact me on my talk page to further discuss. Chengwes 17:53, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for responding to my message. One other thing I'd point out -- if you're going to keep Matt Gorman on the grounds he played for Team USA, then you should also vote to keep Antonio Jardine, Rick Jackson and, especially, Johnny Flynn. It's Flynn that I'm really bothered by because he clearly is notable given that he's on Team USA and has just as much coverage as all of the other McDonald's All Americans from 2007. Chengwes 19:57, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
Would you mind listing Rob Murphy (basketball) on its own AfD page? No one seems to be addressing the assistant basketball coaching issue on the Presutti AfD page. It seems like there is more than a consensus to delete the Jake Presutti page, though. Chengwes 22:37, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
In the future, I would advise not mass nominating AfD. That discussion was mass confusion, and the reason I had to WP:CANVASS is because either people didn't realize they were voting for deleting the entire team, or people had never heard of Jake Presutti and would be unlikely to participate in a discussion. However, once I brought it to their attention that other players, such as Paul Harris (basketball) and Eric Devendorf were involved, they were more quick to defend the article. If you truly feel like some of these players don't belong in Wikipedia, I would suggest nominating them individually next time, and I won't leave any message on talk pages other than the administrator I speak with. Thanks. Chengwes 21:36, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

I was afraid that this would probably happen. If you re-nominate the Presutti article for deletion, please do let me know. Burntsauce 18:02, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Shanahan

[edit]

There is signiicance for shanahan, in that he is the inventor of the Kritik. Wikipedia contains an extensive entry on the Kritik, and even cites shanahan as an innovator of this, so it makes sense that he have his own article

Hello could you explain why the "Sabra Johnson" article is irrelevant, but the "Dominic Sandoval" wiki entry is? Thanks.

Sorry

[edit]

i am so sorry.. i didn't Know that this was against Something.. um i just created this page because some people wanted the bios of the eggs from http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/List_of_Spyro_the_Dragon_characters and other places... but i got all 150 Eggs on there.. but for one thing i want to know is... how come it said Wikipedia is not a game guide when they have things like that on Spyro Characters, i mean this is like characters but their eggs and names of them are there ok so lets find a way we can keep this on here.. do i have to add or delete anything..

and please say something instead of saying like go to the Manuals

The characters are ok, as they keep away individual characters articles, but a list of eggs is over the top. See WP:NOT and WP:FICTION Jaranda wat's sup 21:28, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Do you think

[edit]

i could add this to the Characters.. because some people have been requesting it and there is not a page on the internet i found that has this

If there isn't a page in the internet that has this, then I doubt the info about the eggs will stay in the list of characters page for no more than a couple of hours before being reverted. Also it's likely WP:OR. The best thing to do is to create a wiki on the Wikia website about the whole game it's self and add whatever info about the topic there, not here. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 21:38, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Pataphore

[edit]

hello i was showing a friend this article only to find it gone and myself late to the deletion discussion. i am disappointed at the article deletion for two reasons. one the word is of historical significance. and two, You deleted it despite a majority keep vote. i find this part very disturbing. If such a descission was to be made it should have at least been given an opportunity to merge into the 'pataphysics article, rather than waist others intriging work. Some thing 21:36, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

It doesn't meet wikipedia policy, AFD isn't a vote, the debate is in WP:DRV right now likely to be stayed deletion, more than half of the keep voters were blocked as sockpuppets of each other. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 21:41, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Please reconsider. In a threaded discussion, this name is going to be perceived badly. We are a collaborative community. Telling other users that you do not care what they think is not appropriate. -- JLaTondre 23:50, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Fine, we'll do it the long way. This name falls in the "clearly inappropriate" category and blocking him was correct. If you are going to be a stickler with going through WP:RFCN, then I'd suggest you should also be a stickler for not reverting another admin's actions without discussing it with them first. -- JLaTondre 00:17, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Tay Zonday

[edit]

What was your reason for deleting it?

I was fixing the article up and removing the vandalism and then it disappeared. I have noticed that you have deleted the article several times today so why don't you let people finish the article before deleting it or even looking at the talk page for the reason that it was contested.

It was not "patent nonsense" as it was about a living musician who is notable. Just because you haven't heard of him doesn't mean that you have to delete his page. This was a total abuse of power Rob 18:03, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

It was deleted over 10 times by many admins with and without the z capitalised, I didn't delete it as nonsense, so WP:AGF, I deleted it as mimes aren't notable unless they have a number of reliable independent sources, not youtube. Jaranda wat's sup 17:58, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

If your gonna keep deleting the article at least protect it from recreation so others don't waste their time.Rob 18:04, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

It has been protected, as 10 recreations are too much. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 18:05, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

"I deleted it as mimes (I assume you mean memes) aren't notable unless they have a number of reliable independent sources, not youtube."

Perhaps you should wait until legit editors ACTUALLY GET A CHANCE to place legit sources into the article? Tay Zonday goes beyond "meme" status and is considered an actual singer. I don't see how Tay Zonday isn't notable when I keep seeing crap like some random Seafood Shack article on Wikipedia that's been up for over a year now with NO sources, yet a NOTABLE musician like Tay Zonday can't even get the chance to have an article written up properly because you keep deleting it. Tay Zonday was featured on the "Opie and Anthony" show, aired on various CBS affiliates and will be re-invited back for an actual interview. I'm quite sure more media attention and news articles will spawn as well. I say you unprotect the article and give people a chance to WRITE a decent article before doing a speedy delete. Perhaps let people create the article and stamp an "up for deletion" template up and give it a week or so until the appropriate sources are created. I'm sick of seeing things of ACTUAL NOTABILITY being deleted every hour or so by some admin who wants to stretch his or her moderation powers out just so they can stay busy. But when I see admins deleting something onsight without doing the research themself to see if the article is notable or not, that just isn't right.... --IceSage 21:24, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Again, I request that you unprotect Tay Zonday. Although popular by many on the internet, Tay Zonday is not just an "internet meme." Just Google the man and find out for yourself. He's been interviewed by many radio shows, mentioned by VH1, and those are only 2 sources I can name that mention the guy. Yes, his "rise to fame" started on the internet. So... that means you need to protect the article? So, you're telling us that Tay Zonday is not notable? You're telling me that Opie and Anthony are wasting their time. And VH1 wasted their time mentioning him as well. I guess he's not notible if the media is interested in him. Like said before, there are tons of sources to cite on Tay Zonday by "well known" "professional" media figures news-like sources. If you'd give the article a chance to flourish instead of deleting it 3 times in 1 day or deleting it before even a week has passed, you'd realize this. I'm not one for getting involved with trying to get an article unprotected, but in this case all I see is an Admin that's power-abuse happy; what I mean by that is... you seemed too concerned in deleting articles rather than giving them a chance and THEN deciding if something is to be deleted. --IceSage 03:50, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

deletion of Brisbane Bands Cricket Association page

[edit]

hi,

when looking to add the link to this page to a net discussion, i saw that it had been deleted. i was wondering what the reason for this was. it is a page that is to be expanded espeially with some international and antional dates secured for some of the teams in the near future. it also consititutes quite a unique competition in circke history and should be retained i believe. i would appreciate a reason for the deletion.

Capitalism article and my 24hr blocking

[edit]

I was actually looking around for an administrator to step in and protect the page or help in another way. I could not find one. If you had actually posted on the page or given me a warning, the dispute or 'revert war' would have been curtailed. You did not. You also failed to notice that editor Ultramarine broached the 3RR rule before me. This editor suffered no penalty whatsoever, which i think is unfair. I am an active user who edits plenty of articles controversial or not. The capitalism article should be key article but is blatantly mis-sourced, POV riddled and is currently edited by someone from a right-wing think tank -User:TedFrank. The article has long been dominated by un-collaborative ,politically-motived editors. If you can help at all please do. -- maxrspct ping me 10:02, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Jaranda. Would you please undelete the Lake Tour Bike Trek. I contested the prod and opened it up for wider discussion, but it got deleted before a full review took place. After doing a bit of research I can see that there is sufficient notability for the event for it to remain an article in Category:Bicycle tours. It simply needs a rewrite not deleting. Regards. Hello. Your from Miami Beach. You must've heard of the 'new' city of Cutler Bay. Nancy McCue founded that city. Therefore, her notability is asserted and is not eligible for deletion. I was getting ready to put up her picture and make the page just generaly better when I found out that you had deleted it. So please undelete it. Thanks.

It's not really a new city, it's a long-standing community that only been recently incorpurated, not really "found". Needs sources as well. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 16:30, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

MAZE: Solve the World's Most Challenging Puzzle

[edit]

A notability tag has been placed on MAZE: Solve the World's Most Challenging Puzzle, and I'm wondering if it'd be possible to AfD it, so a discussion about its notability can be better discussed. Think an AfD would be okay? -WarthogDemon 16:26, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Apologies

[edit]

I think I overreacted yesterday (about the closing AfD). We're having a fairly annoying problem here; as you can see from WP:APARTHEID, we have an organized group of users, including admins, who are deliberately posting inflammatory articles and openly blackmailing other users into a quid-pro-quo ("I'll accept the deletion of this article about country X only if we get the one about Israel deleted"). This is obviously a massive abuse of WP:POINT and WP:NPOV and I actually do not see how we might get out of it short of a big ArbCom case.

In addition, this has a strong opportunity to be a media disaster if a reporter happened to see it. I deal with the media on behalf of Wikipedia and I could already foresee how such a story could be twisted.

This is why I would have preferred that the discussion would have been closed with a lengthier explanation... My comments were probably cruel and I apologize for that. David.Monniaux 17:03, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Apology accepted, the most important thing to do is to mass nominate all those apartheid in country articles, with the exception of South Africa of course, like I offered in the closing of the AFD. Jaranda wat's sup 17:07, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

This is in response to an edit you made: this one. While the edit is perfectly fine, your edit summary is something that... well, for lack of a better word(s) can be improved... Your edit summary reads "Undid revision 148797275 by Adonice293 (talk)." This is bizarre and this edit summary is only a problem because the edit you reverted came 9 edits earlier; six users have edited the article between the time that Adonice293 made the edit that you reverted... At first, I looked at the history and honestly thought that you had reverted Adonice's edit... as well as Turban 2's, 69*'s, Rickterp's, 207*'s, and Cholmes75's edit. Instead of simply using the default edit summary, I highly suggest that you type your own edit summary so we actually know what you're doing... we don't want to have to figure it out for ourselves... that's why we have edit summaries in the first place, so you can explain your edit. If Adonice's edit that you reverted was the one directly before your revering of said edit, then it isn't confusing at all. But with nine edits in between, hopefully you can see where that would become perplexing.

And I don't think I need to say this, but the previous user who edited was Turban 2. If s/he looked at the page history and saw that the edit directly after his/hers had an edit summary which began as reading "Undid revision by...," then s/he would probably think that you reverted their edit. So for everybody's sake, please make sure that your edit summaries are 1,000% comprehensible without an ounce of potential misinterpretation, which is why I suggest writing your own summaries... instead of sticking with the default edit summary, it would've been better to write something like "Restored removed image" so not only do you get right to the point and tell us all what you did in your edit, but it doesn't cause any confusion for anybody else. Please respond here, at least so I know that you read and understood my comment. Hopefully, you follow my advice. Thank you for your patience in reading this dreadfully long message. S/he is adding a template to the top of all the MLB player article I've created, including the 11 I've created today, which I assume he got to by looking at my contributions. This is ironic because earlier I was blocked for looking at your contributions, and a new user whom you greeted I think used your contributions to get to my contributions, and is editing all the article I created. Now, the template he's adding is {{nofootnotes}}, so s/he is being very helpful, and this isn't in any way at all a problem. Hi Jaranda, I was going to afd 50's Back(Say Somethin Bitch), but I see you have already deleted it. Can you also delete Fully Loaded (mixtape)? It was started by the same user who has even tagged it for notability issues. Cheers. Spellcast 12:23, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for that. Also, I tried deleting these mixtapes in an unsuccessful AFD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/All Eyez On Us (G-Unit Radio Part 5). I started those pages when I was very new to Wikipedia. I saw them listed in WP:RA so I went ahead and created them. Looking back, I regret starting those pages. They can never be expanded into an article that people can read. There's no sales, certifications, critical reviews, or anything. Anyway, the afd result was to take it to WP:RFD. So is there anything you can recommend to increase the odds of those tapes being deleted? These redirects are pointless and nobody is going to type any of those names in. I'm deleting them now. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 16:18, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks heaps! I really appreciate it ;) Spellcast 16:48, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Why I was indef blocked

[edit]

Along time ago, at least a year+, and my account was hacked along with my email address. They must have used my account to commit some page move vandalism. It wasn't until about 6 months ago that I got my email address back and then I could reset my pass here. But my talk page was protected for some reason so I couldnt put an {{Unblock}} on my page. So I see you got a new user name, what else has changed. Jobe6 18:55, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Why was the page 'The United States Civil Flag' deleted? Are you trying to help delete history?

GA review-Indian Creek

[edit]

No matter how many times I look at an article I work on there is always something I miss, thanks for the review on Indian Creek massacre. If you have the time another set of eyes as far as copy editing goes would be most helpful. IvoShandor 21:25, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

AfD deletion of Funagain Games

Could you please userfy this article to my userspace? I feel that it's salvageable. -Chunky Rice 22:02, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

The 3RR

[edit]

I would invited you to spend some time reading the Template talk:Infobox NFLactive page. I have set up a poll (under the Survey section), but familiarizing yourself with the situation would help. It's a frustrating mess that really shouldn't go to arbitration. Juan Miguel Fangio| ►Chat  22:08, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Superpowers

[edit]

Hi. I see you deleted Superpowers (comics). The entry will need to be created at some point but I didn't want to jump in with both feet if there was a major issue with this or if the entry had any good content worth saving (and worth a deletion review). Not that I'm really expecting you to remember a single deletion but any tips would be appreciated before I got too far into making a new article. (Emperor 18:06, 7 August 2007 (UTC))

I deleted info about what seems to be a nn comic book created by "fan favorties authors" that just gave a list of characters that appeared, nothing about superpowers in general. You could always recreate if you want. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 18:34, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Superpowers is the name of the series (actual Superpowers are dealt with in Superpower (ability) ) which revamps a number of old comic characters (and it is produced by a couple of fan favourites ;) ). I'll drop in a stub in a minute (as I've been putting one together). (Emperor 19:59, 7 August 2007 (UTC))

Hi, as a result of discussion at List of Internet phenomena, can you please redirect Chocolate Rain and Chocolate rain to List of Internet phenomena#Videos? Many thanks, Badagnani 05:55, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing it up. I was working on a rewrite that was basically a "partial revert". Juan Miguel Fangio| ►Chat  07:25, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Flag of Hong Kong FAR

[edit]

Please take a look at Flag of Hong Kong to see what else needs to be done for the article to survive its FAR and keep FA status. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 21:49, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
