Shoc, is a privately held e-commerce company that specializes in making eyeshields, aka visors, for both football and lacrosse helmets. Shoc is an Australian based company headquartered in Queensland, Australia.
History
[edit]The company was founded in 2003[1] by James Cashat, and chose to simplfy the company's name to just SHOC. Which is an acronym for Sports.Helmet.Optical.Conversions. In 2003, Shoc introduced its original product line, which were visor inserts[2], and not actual visors. The original inserts were designed to fit visors made by oakley, nike, and under armour. To date the company has expanded its product line to manufacturing visors for both lacrosse and helmets. Shoc has 3 visors on the market today. The Shoc 1.0[3], which is designed for both football and lacrosse helmets. The Shoc Lightning 2.0 [4], which is designed for football helmets only. Followed by the Shoc Thunder 3.0[5] which is designed for Lacrosse helmets only.
Product and technical innovation
[edit]All of the visors and/or eyeshields that Shoc manufactures are molded with shatterproof polycarbonate with anti-fog, anti-scratch, and hydrophobic coatings[6]. In 2017, the Shoc 2.0 visors were put through NOCSAE impact tests at Clemson University. The visors were assembled to the face masks, which are attached to football helmets and were set to a 5’’ drop onto anvil that measures severity index and G Force generated. After 6 rounds of testing, no visors were damages or cracked in any way. [7] Shoc makes multiple color variations for all three of their visors. These iridium, and/or tinted visors are not legal at the high school or NCAA level. The Clear Visors are legal for use on all levels of football or lacrosse.
