[edit]From: kategibbs To: info-en@wikimedia.org Sent: Saturday, October 22, 2005 11:18 PM Subject: TalK: List of Australians in International Prisons
Dear Sir/Madam
I am appalled at the way you allow Wikipedia to be used for people to vent their personal attacks on people, which has recently happened to myself. Please see
I was informed some time ago that people had been posting about me and the work I do at www.prisonersoverseas.com
I received an email this morning saying that whilst searching for Prisoners Overseas using my name, the above came up in the google listings. I have not been able to defend myself and the information is incorrect, including the fact I live in the UK, when I am based in Australia. It is in response to my setting up of Prisoners Overseas. This person has sought to blacken my name. There is a comment there from a Robert Frost of Prisoner Dispute in the UK, this is a fictitious name and fictitious organisation. The whole attack on my personality and work is fictional and appalling.
I have been accused of being someone called Diane Elgar, whom I am not. I would ask that this be investigated and removed immediately. I made one post sometime ago in defence of Stephen Sutton whose listing was being vandalised.
This is a blatant personal attack which you state you do not allow, yet this has been on Wikipedia for some time now. This is effecting genuine charity work.
I wrote to you some time ago which was ignored. Please answer this letter and remove this appalling use of Wikipedia.
Regards
Kate Gibbons www.prisonersoverseas.com kate@prisonersoverseas.com

Re: Admin nomination criteria
[edit]In stating age, I mean no insult. Any rationale person I think can easily agree that people who are 25 are, on average, more mature than people who are 15. There are always exceptions to every such rule of course. For all I know, you could be more mature than I! :) I actually figured you for 20-25. Age is probably a useless criteria; knowing age in this project is difficult; you count on someone stating it. I've already thought about deleting it in part because it's useless and in part because my criteria list is getting so long. If the candidate meets up with the other criteria, age won't be a factor anyways.
On another point; I noticed your wikistress level is high, and your contributions may be dropping. Lots of other people are begging you (or will) not to leave. I'll echo that. I'd like to add something else; avoid burnout. You are a very active contributor. It is easy for highly active contributors to get caught up in burnout. LET GO. What happens here is, on balance, pretty meaningless compared to real life. Also, assuming this project lasts for decades or even centuries, what we do here is not fundamentally important. All we can hope for is to nudge the project in directions we think are beneficial, plant seeds and hope for the best. Whether you contribute X or X*10 content/value to the project will make not much difference to the project 40 years from now. You're doing excellent work. Don't let that diminish because people aren't acting in ways you expect or want them to. People have a way of disappointing others. Pretty depressing :) That is, until you learn to let go and just relax, and not worry if someone agrees with you, does what you think they should, or etc. Until you have kids (and even then it's marginal) the only person you can reasonably expect to live up to your expectations is...you. Everything else is a crap shoot. --Durin 02:19, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
- I appreciate your kind words and advice, and as for spending so much time on-wiki, I only come here after I do everything necessary. Yes, it's probably true that in the real world your average 25 year old (wait a second... FRAT BOYS!) is more mature than your average 15 year old. However, this is wikipedia. The 15 year olds who bother to stick around are only gonna be the most mature ones. See also [1] I think that's the link... kinda long I know Redwolf24 (talk) 02:26, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

Answering Qs on RfAs
[edit]In an edit summary to WP:RFA you said, "rv titoxd, they only have to accept, they dont have to answer Q's yet...". This isn't accurate. According to commented out text on that page:
- "Please note that new RfA policy states that ALL RfA nominations posted here MUST have both acceptance by the candidate and the answers to the questions on the subpage, or the nominations may be removed."
Also note on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/nominate it says:
- "Once this RfA subpage has been created, the nominator must explain on the RfA subpage why this nominee would make a good administrator, and the nominee must accept the nomination and answer the questions on the RfA subpage before it can be transcluded to the main RfA page."
Titoxd was accurate in removing the RfA for Anonymous editor. I guess all that young, high-speed thinking got in the way of good editing ;-) (it's a joke...relax...trying to make light of it...with your stress level you might not, but it really is a joke. Take it as such). --Durin 13:44, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi
[edit]Thank you for contacting me about that RFM. It would seem like a good idea as I honestly think there is a communication breakdown between us. He always seems to ignore my points, or twist things illogically. However, I just noticed a racist comment he left on my talk page which has heavily turned me off. This is not things a person should say if they want mediation. That said, I don't want to reject it outright, but at the moment, even dealing with this person can be stressful, so if possible, I'd like to abstain this proposal until Im ready to deal with it. Is that acceptable? OmegaWikipedia 06:25, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Wait on a second
[edit]I am uninvolved in the revert war. I have not edited a single thing on that passage. Your reason for protecting the page (from the edit summary) was to stop the revert war. However, allow me to state for the record: the talk page was getting somewhere, and there was compromises and much good discussion. It was time to unprotect the page: especially as Slrubenstein appeared on the scene (he is very good with editing these type of pages). You should also note that I added material after I showed a friend the page and they immediately objected to the lead section stating that the Canonical Gospels mainly depict Jesus as just a Rabbi or spiritual leader.
I do apologise for not telling you, however - and also apologise for a) forgetting to delist it (brainfart!), and b) giving the impression that I unprotected it just so I could edit the page. This was not the case. As it so happens, my main change was reverted almost immediately (and I feel very unreasonably). I am currently discussing the revert on the talk page. - Ta bu shi da yu 23:41, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Mediation
[edit]Well I guess I recommend that you don't. Doesn't seem like a relevant dispute. Seems like some anonymous IP editor just came in for the sake of annoying others and inserting a ridiculous offensive picture. I think they already had in mind that they would seek mediation. Besides it will be 4 editors (Kwamikagami, FayssalF, JadeManiac and me) vs. 1, who hasn't returned again. Thank you --a.n.o.n.y.m t 00:44, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Medcom reform
[edit]Ive noted a couple comments youve made re the Iraq War Medcom req. re Reddi's refusal to accept. Ive suggested it before: change Medcom policy to a proactive one and scrap the "required" agreement of parties. What do you think? (Ive not monitored Mediation-l too closely the past couple weeks). -St|eve 03:50, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
- Bring it up on the mailing list. But I don't understand how it would still be mediation if the other party doesn't accept, it just seems like you'd be asking for another opinion from a neutral party, and I believe WP:3O should do THAT. But if I'm mistaken with what your intent is, then bring it up on the mailing list. Redwolf24 (talk) 00:32, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

You, or any Wikipedia user, can contribute your suggestions and comments to the /Workshop page of any active arbitration case. Comments on evidence or proposals can help in understanding the import of evidence and in refining proposals. Proposed principles, findings of fact, or remedies may be listed on /Proposed decision and form part of the final decision. Fred Bauder 14:48, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
I think I know why you listed that there now. If it was about Stevertigo and people complaining about the arbcom, then you should know I was defending the medcom, telling people they should have complained while you guys were still deliberating, but someone just said we can't vote in arbcom decisions, but I said we can still talk to arbitrators... Redwolf24 (talk) 00:36, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
- Nothing to do with Stevertigo or complaints. Just an invitation to jump into the arbitration work at the /Workshop level. As you are a candidate I assumed you might be interested. You cannot vote but you can made proposals at /Workshop and comment on others proposals. Fred Bauder 03:52, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
I am exasperated, see the archive for: Traditionalist Catholic. No progress on this article has been done. Outside consensus, every edit I make gets reverted by "usertobeanonymous". I am effectivle barred from contribution by this one person, who also makes personal attacks. I can't express NPoV, that Traditionalist Catholic does not universally mean bashing the Holy See (in Rome). Many traditionalists work within the system to reintroduce reverts to the reform, and I brought several examples of people who do just that, and several books that have that PoV. Instead this person brings in people from another site, with the same radical PoV, only to edit only this page. I can think of no other solution except to request Mediation. Dominick (ŤαĿĶ) 17:20, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
- Then file a mediation at WP:TINMC, as WP:RFM is swamped, and all the mediators on our committee are busy. Redwolf24 (talk) 00:32, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
re:RFM
[edit]I saw the other person's comment above. I didn't make any comments which I intended to be racist. This person, who launched three blatant and obvious personal attacks at me in one day, including insults to my intelligence, likes to make up imaginary drama, and delude himself into thinking he's always right. You can remove the mediation request for all I care; I haven't the time to attempt to reason with people like that. If any future problems persist (which, knowing him, they probably will, becasue he is a problem user with a history of policy-breaking and edit-war instigation, involving several different editors), I'll handle them at that time. --FuriousFreddy 22:20, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

User:Jakes18 on List of terrorist organisations (temporary protection requested)
[edit]Jakes18 has gotten the notion that he wants the group Operation Rescue removed from its longstanding place on the List of terrorist organisations. I've reported his multiple 3RR violations in removing the listing, but the the whole 3RR noticeboard seems very backlogged (it looks like a number of five day old reports have not yet been addressed, not just this one that I reported). I confess that I've done most (but not all by any means) of the restoration of the old status quo (but with added citations and explanatory text) to address initially reasonable issues by Jakes18 (but carefully staying under 3RR myself in my restorations). His initial expression of doubt seemed reasonable, a refusal to accept any explanation or citation, or to seek consensus, is not.
FWIW, I had nothing to do with adding the listed group in the first place, I just don't like it being taken out purely as a way of advocating the actions of OR (while leaving in dozens of other groups with less solid provided evidence). Actually, I'm not really that excited about the inherent NPOV of the list in general, but given it's there, it ought to proceed with some consensus and verifiable evidence.
Anyway, I assume that eventually the 3RR will result in Jakes18 getting blocked for a little while. But then he'll be back again. I was hoping that in the meanwhile (and maybe for a bit longer than a 3RR block) you could protect the article itself to force editors to use the talk page and reach consensus, rather than just push an agenda. All the best. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 01:32, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks muchly, Redwolf24. I guess I'll try a "quick poll" on the talk page to see if that indicates a consensus. Polls are flawed, I know. But maybe if several editors weigh in, that will be something to point to as rough consensus. I don't think Jakes18 is an actual vandal, or generally ill-meaning. I just think he has let a political agenda get the better of his sense of WP consensus process. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 01:42, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
- Oh, I hadn't realized that page was there. I only knew about writing to a semi-random administrator to get a page protection. I've seen and respected some admin actions by Redwolf24, so his name jumped out when I looked through the list of active administrators. But if I need to request protection on something else in the future, I'll do it the right way. Thanks. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 01:45, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
RFPP is back logged as hell, I don't recommend going there. Redwolf24 (talk) 01:46, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
