Environmental Record of Conoco Phillips

The past environmental record of the U.S. based corporation, Conoco Phillips, doesn’t look pretty. It is among the top three corporate air polluters in the U.S., having released 8.04 million lbs. of toxic air in the year 2002. [1] This corporation is huge, it operates 19 refineries around the world and every day has a crude processing capacity of 2,901,000 barrels per day. [2] That figure makes it the fifth largest refiner in the world, and explains partly why their air pollution figure is so high. [2] Even so, Conoco Phillips should have accountability with what they do to the environment. As of March 2007, the EPA has linked Conoco Phillips to 52 polluted sites in the U.S. [3] It is clear that more could be done on their part to clean up their pollution.
