History

[edit]

On October 11, 2018, SM Entertainment signed a "strategic" memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Trans Media to enter the Indonesian market and promote various businesses, such as its own advertising business and media. The MOU signing ceremony was attended by then SM CEO Kim Young-min, Indonesian branch manager Han Kyung-jin, CT Group Chairman Chairul Tanjung, and TransTV President Atiek Nur Wahyuni. With the agreement, SM planned to promote platform management, visual content production, pro-event production, promotion, merchandising, and streaming advertising projects. The two companies are also said to have a goal of establishing a joint venture company through simultaneous meetings scheduled to be held in Seoul and Jakarta. The two companies also seek to build a "global strategic business model" based on brand awareness and experience produced in South Korea and Indonesia.[1]

By February 21, 2019, SM held a heads of agreement (HOA) signing ceremony to establish a joint venture with Trans Media as the company planned to expand its business centered on four areas such as production, general advertising agency, lifestyle business, and digital.[2] On the same day, Rossa was recruited by the joint venture as its first artist, along with the release of a collaboration song announcement with Super Junior.[3] Leeteuk of Super Junior and Rossa attended the event in person and stated their impressions and expectations for future activities.[4] Besides the two artists, CT Group Chairman Tanjung, Trans Media President Nur Wahyuni, SM executive producer Lee Soo-man, SM then CEO Han Se-min, and SM South East Asia Branch Manager Han Kyung-jin attended the signing ceremony.[5]
