Development and features

[edit]

On September 7, 2016, SM Entertainment introduced a new fan art platform, FanBook, which also opened its beta service on the same day.[1] SM planned to promote supplementary projects employing "excellent" content posted on the medium with expectations of contributing to the "positive" growth of the fan art culture.[2] The platform provides features activity spaces such as personal portfolio production, curation appreciation, and sharing services, and was predicted to be "well-received" by those interested in fan art.[3] From August 9 to 31, a fan art contest was held that allowed users to use the service in advance.[4] The contest was held for three weeks, and those who wanted to participate in the competition were able to sign up for the pre-released fan book and create their fan art.[5] Additionally, the winning entries for the contest were announced on September 7, with the winning entries exhibited at the SM Town Coex Artium and SM Communications Center.[6]
