"#Cookie Jar" (Hashtag Cookie Jar) is a song by South Korean girl group Red Velvet, taken from their debut Japanese extended play of the same title, #Cookie Jar (2018).

Background and composition

On May 16, 2018, South Korean entertainment outlet Osen reported that Oricon Style had announced that Red Velvet will be debuting in Japan on July 4.[1] The group themselves delivered the news through their concert in Japan saying that they wanted to meet their fans closer than ever before and be able to show a great performance.[2] Following the report, three teaser photos were posted on Red Velvet's official Instagram account on July 23 along with a caption saying, "Red Velvet Japan 1st Mini Album 'Cookie Jar' will be released on July 4".[3][4]

Promotion and reception

Following its initial release, "#Cookie Jar" was met with mixed reviews from music critics.

"#Cookie Jar" debuted at number 93 on the 27th weekly issue of South Korea's International Gaon Digital Chart for 2018 during the period dated July 1–7.[5] In the following week, it peaked at number 88.[6] It also debuted and peaked at number 26 on the International Gaon Download Chart.[7][8] The song debuted at number 20 on the US Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart.[9]
