MEMORY ORGANIZATION IN SEMICONDUCTOR MEMORIES

[edit]

The semiconductor memories are of mainly two types:-

1.Synchronous memory

2.Asynchronous memory
The memory management unit of semiconductor memories consist of a decoder, word line, bit line,Sense and read amplifier circuit,Refresh counter.
If there is M×N array of cells M,N denotes address length and word length respectively.M=2^n, where n is number of address decoding lines. There are status and control signals along with read and write signals. The bit line act as data input/output.
Refresh counters are present for refreshing as well as reading the contents of cells. The contents of cells are read first row-wise and then column-wise.

VENDORS OF SEMICONDUCTOR MEMORIES:-

The vendors of semiconductor memories are mainly Intel, Samsung, Toshiba.
