The Thomas More College of Liberal Arts is dedicated to Classical education in the Catholic intellectual tradition. Throughout the course of its four-year curriculum, students engage the seminal ideas of Western thought. The college is located in Merrimack, New Hampshire with a semester in Rome, Italy.
Mission
[edit]In May 1993, the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars requested from the presidents of Catholic colleges a statement addressing the question: "What is a Catholic college?" Dr. Sampo's response provides a useful introduction the founding vision of Thomas More. In it, he explains the college's commitment to providing the opportunity of receiving liberal arts education to all eager learners, not only those with the highest standardized test scores or most advantageous backgrounds. He roots this commitment in the college's identity as a Catholic school, saying that a recognition of the equality of all persons is part of the truth revealed by Christ, and, as such, ought to play a role in a Christian educational enterprise. Curriculum
[edit]Core Curriculum
[edit]The core curriculum at Thomas More College is similar to a Great Books program. Students read the great works of Western literature, philosophy, and political science in their entirety rather than as a collection of excerpts. The course of study takes the form of a Humanities Cycle, in which all the students - freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors - engage the same works at the same time. Majors

Alumni
[edit]Over sixty percent of Thomas More College alumni go on to graduate study. They have been accepted into Master's, Ph. D., and professional programs at universities such as Columbia, Fordham, Tufts, Marquette, Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins, John Paul II Pontifical Institute, and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium). The have pursued post-baccalaureate studies in such diverse fields as English, liturgical music, environmental planning, psychology, public policy, canon law, business, veterinary medicine, philosophy, fine arts, and law.
