Pratap Singh I was a Hindu Rajput ruler of The Kingdom of Mewar and sometimes also known as Udaipur state from Sisodia dynasty. He is popularly known as Maharana Pratap. He fought several major battles against Akbar including the battle of Haldighati in 1576 to resist the expansionist policy of the Mughal empire. He was born on 9 May,1540 in the present day Kumbhal Fort. He died on 19 January 1597 at the age of 56 in the present day Chavand in the Udaipur District, Rajasthan, India. His father was Udai Singh II and his mother was Maharani Jaiwanta Bai. He had 11 spouses, 17 sons and 5 daughters. He was coronated on 28 February, 1572 and he ruled till 1597. His successor was Amar Singh I who succeeded him on 19 January 1597. One of the famous battles of Maharana Pratap is The Battle of Haldighati. He became a folk hero for his military resistance through guerrilla warfare which proved inspirational for later rebels against Mughals including Malik Ambar and Shivaji.
