This entry is a comparison of the ice hockey articles from the English and Russian versions of Wikipedia. First off, it was a huge mistake to use the Russian page. The translation was not good at all, and needs a lot of work done to it. Even though the article translation was terrible, I wanted to compare these two because I love ice hockey and I wanted to see information about hockey from a North American point of view and from a Russian point of view. The Russian article was very elementary and stated things such as the team with highest amount of goals scores. I figured this was pretty obvious as with any sport. The Russian page for some reason also says that the players are on horses. I think this is just evidence of the bad translation because horses on ice do not work. The biggest differences between the Russian and English articles is how simple the Russian one is. The Russian article breaks down everything into smaller sections. There is a section explaining what the goal is and what the lines are on the ice. The English article skips a lot of this stuff and focuses more on things like professional hockey and the NHL. The Russian article has the tone that the reader knows absolutely nothing about ice hockey. This can be nice if you don't know anything, but very repetitive and obvious if you have any idea what hockey is. The English page was more about professional teams and records for ice hockey. Overall, besides the translation, the horses, and the repetition, the Russian article is far more informative about hockey itself. The Russian article explains rules and equipment and everything more while the English page skips most of these things and talks more about who plays ice hockey.--SJRick (talk) 08:20, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
