The Charles Nachand Fieldhouse, also known as the Nachand Fieldhouse, is a community and recreational center located in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

History[edit]

The Nachand Fieldhouse was opened in 1937 as the gymnasium for Jeffersonville High School, which was adjacent to the fieldhouse, and home court for the school's boys' basketball team. The Red Devils played at the fieldhouse until 1971, when the school relocated to its current location and the current home court, William S. Johnson Arena, opened. The City of Jeffersonville took possession of the former gym and renamed it in honor of Charles Nachand, a onetime Jeffersonville Parks Department director. In 2017, a fundraising effort started to finance renovations and improvements to the building, including exterior facade repairs and installation of a new electrical system to replace the building's original system.

Current Uses[edit]

The venue is host to adult and youth recreational programs, particularly basketball programs, and can also be rented out for private parties. The fieldhouse also hosts youth after-school programs and fitness classes. Historic memorabilia related to the Red Devils can also be found inside the building.
