Thorrur (Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh state, India. It is located on Jayaprakash Narayana road between Warangal and Khammam. It is at a distance of 50Km from Warangal and 70Km from Khammam. The town has a population of about 20,000. It is a rapidly growing town owing to its location. Though it is not the assembly constituency,it continues to be the virtual center of Palakurthi constituency.

[edit]Thorrur mandal, including its villages have a total population of 68,336 of which 34552 are male and 33784 are female, according 2001 census.Male female ratio is 977:1000. The overall literacy percentage is around 55% of which male is 67% and female is 43%. The main language spoken is Telugu with quite a bit of Telangana accent. Majority of the population are Hindu with few Muslims and Christians. In addition, there are considerable number of tribals called lambada , mostly living in small hamlets called Thandas.The society is divided into various castes, with Velama and Reddy being in the dominant position. Agriculture is the main occupation of people living in villages.

[edit]Thorrur has warm climate with peak temperatures in summer reaching up to 45°C. Temperature in winter goes as low as 15°C.The air is mostly dry with little humidity. The climate has three seasons with rainy season between June-Nov, winter between Dec-Feb and summer between March-May. The rainfall is mostly through monsoon with south west monsoon contributing to most of the rain fall. In addition, northeast monsoon contributes some rain fall. Rainfall occurs often by low pressure areas created in bay of bengal as well. Historically, Thorrur floods rarely. As it is far away from the coastline, it is free from high speed cyclonic winds.
