"Jealousy" is a song by American singer-songwriter Natalie Merchant, released through Elektra and WEA in 1996 as the third and final single from her debut album, Tigerlily. It was particularly successful in Canada, peaking at No. 5, but also reached the top 30 of the US Billboard Hot 100 and the top 40 in New Zealand. Standing in heavy contrast to most of Merchant's other works, the singer wrote "Jealousy" with the intent of creating a pop song akin to something that a girl group would record.[1] Its lyrics are written from the perspective of someone who has been romantically broken up with.[2] The track was recorded at Bearsville Studios in Bearsville, New York, with additional recording at New York City's Sony Music Studios.[3]
