Wenceslao Sicat Garcia (september 28, 1914 - march 7 1979) was a Visual Artist and a writer. He became a professor at the university of Santo Tomas. He earned a complement from Mariano Madarang the first director of Philippine women’s University as the greatest teacher of painting in University of Santo Tomas because of his discipline, dedication, and systematic lesson.
Biography

[edit]Wenceslao Sicat Garcia was born in Bacolor Pampanga, Wenceslao Garcia was the 1st among the 7 children of Pedro Garcia and Segunda Sicat. He studied at University of the Philippines where he obtained his Bachelor Arts degree. He was great in painting and drawing and was influenced by Fernando amorsolo, Fabian Dela Rosa and Gilermo Tolentino his professor in university of the Philippines.
After Garcia graduated, He was also a movie director under the sampaguita production picture together with Manuel Conde Sr. and his wife stopped him from directing movies so he can give his full attention and focus on his master piece. while Garcia is focusing on his arts he was also accepting commissions from other customers. He was called then by the University of Santo Tomas to make some man scrip book to illustrate by some re-known doctors in 1930 he use to illustrate the book of castor surla. He was able to impress the doctor, the Dominican priests and others with his talent, that makes them offer him to teach at the University of Santo Tomas where he became a professor for almost 30 years.
As an artist
[edit]Garcia was focused in teaching painting a the University of Santo Tomas and he earned a complement from Professor Mariano Madarang as a one of the greatest Professor in painting in University of Santo Tomas because of his discipline, dedication, systematic lesson. even his students idolize him because of his passion and dedication on his works and creative teaching.
Everyone admired Garcia for his great dedication on his works, seeing his works everyone see's how much passion he puts on it, every master piece he's making has a great meaning that everyone understands and his passion on what he is doing is very visible to everyone, one of Garcia's greatest piece is the portrait of his wife and his mother is proof of his superior painting that be procedure, everyone admired this portraits for it's magnificent and realistic features. He set forth the image his mother, his wife, and other painting in vigorous brushwork with the use of the impressionist impasto technique, although affiliated with the Conservative tradition. Garcia was a proficient painter of contemporary urban scenes rather than the rural genres that dominated the American period.
Marriage
[edit]During his life, Wenceslao Garcia was married twice and had a 12 children, he married"?"with whom he had 3 children named Gloria Garcia, Wenceslao garcia Jr., leonardo Garcia. After the death of his previous wife "?" , Wenceslao met and married Elena Baluyot bengco, with whom he had 9 children. The son and daughters of him are follows: Eldest Luwalhati garcia, Voltaire Garcia, Enrico Garcia, Luzviminda Garcia, Emanuel Garcia, Luning ning Garcia, Rene Aristotle Garcia, ligaya Garcia, and jasmin Garcia.

Awards
[edit]1. Honorable mention for communal cooperation at the second kalibapi National Art competition in 1944.
2. Third prize for peasants daughter at the art association of the Philippines art competition in 1951.
3. Visual artist pioneers award at GSIS in 2011.
