Canberra Junior Brave is a junior ice hockey team based in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. The Junior Brave compete in both the Australian Junior Ice Hockey League (AJIHL) Tier 2 and the NSW Under 18 Midget League.

The Junior Brave is affiliated with the CBR Brave, Canberra's senior men's ice hockey team, who play in the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL).

Team History[edit]

The Junior Brave was established in 2015 under the guidance of former Australian Representative and AIHL player Andrew Brunt (Head Coach) and Tanya Brunt (Team Manager).[1] The Junior Brave was established to provide a development opportunity for young and upcoming ice hockey players in Canberra as well as to become a feeder team for the CBR Brave.

Inaugural tryouts for the team were held over a 4 week period in February 2015.

2015 Heaton Cup Tournament[edit]

The first test for the Junior Brave was competing in the 2015 Heaton Cup Tournament held on Good Friday at the Canterbury Rink in Sydney, NSW. Four other teams contested the tournament, with 3 Sydney based teams namely the (defending 2014 NSW Midget League Champions) Liverpool Saints, Canterbury Eagles and the Blacktown Flyers as well as the Brisbane based Southern Stars. While the Junior Brave entered the tournament as significant underdogs, they held their own against the much higher rated opposition teams, achieving a win against the Blacktown Flyers and a draw against Liverpool, earning the Junior Brave a semi-final birth. In a highly competitive semi-final, Junior Brave lost to the Liverpool Saints 0-1.
