Smoking has a strong correlation with bronchitis so a great way to prevent the onset of the virus is by reducing or quitting smoking. Straying away from other lung irritants would also aid in prevention. Hand hygiene is another good way to prevent the onset of this disease.

There are multiple measures one can take to treat acute bronchitis. Home remedies include drinking fluids and getting plenty of rest, but staying away from caffeine and alcohol. Increasing the humidity in your home has also been proven to be beneficial in fighting the virus but over-the-counter pain relievers and cough medicine are better approaches. The pain relievers reduce inflammation and lower your fever while relieving pain. The cough medicine however, is most effective on children aged 6 or above.
