Capela Senhor Bom Jesus dos Passos / Capela Pombo

The Chapel of Portuguese: Capela Senhor Bom Jesus dos Passos, commonly known as the Capela Pombo, is a Roman Catholic church in Belém, Pará, Brazil.

The residence and chapel are located in Travessa Campos Sales, formerly called Travessa do Passinho, on the perimeter between Rua Manoel Barata and Rua 13 de Maio, in the current Bairro do Comércio, in Belém.

The chapel was built in approximately 1784 by the Portuguese plantation owner and colonel Ambrósio Henriques da Silva Pombo. He attached the chapel to his property now located in the Comércio district. It was a private chapel, and was used by Pombo, his relatives, friends, and slaves for both regular Masses and religious festivals.

[In 1784, Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreira cites, in his reports, the chapel of Captain Ambrósio as one of the public oratories in the city.?]

The cartouche of the chancel arch has a monogram in stylized lettering, "AM", an abbreviation of Ave Maria.[1]
