I teach and do research at a university. I hold degrees in Philosophy, Experimental Psychology, and Computer Science. My work, however, has strongest connections to certain strands in contemporary Sociology. My research is ethnomethodologically-informed and draws on the methods and findings of Conversation Analysis. In my work I have focused on the organization of instruction and the ways in which matters conventionally treated as mental predicates (inter alia understanding, discovery, learning) can be studied in terms of witnessible practices. I have conducted studies in a variety of practical settings including, formal teaching environments (i.e., classrooms and tutorials), operating theatres, clinics, and family therapy sessions.
