Dorota Niedziela (born August 20, 1964, in Oświęcim) is a Polish politician and veterinarian. She has served as a member of the Polish Sejm during the 7th[1], 8th[2], 9th[3], and 10th[4] terms. In 2015, she held the position of Deputy Minister of the Environment, and she is currently the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm in its 10th term[5].

Biography

In 1991, she graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Agricultural University of Wrocław. At the same university, she completed her specialization studies in veterinary surgery and radiology. She began her professional practice as a veterinarian and became a co-owner of veterinary clinics in Kęty and Bielsko-Biała. She was appointed to the board of the Silesian Veterinary Polyclinic in 2006 and became the secretary of the Polish Veterinary Medicine Association in 2010[6].

In 2001, she participated in organizing the local structures of the Civic Platform in Kęty. As a candidate for the party, she unsuccessfully ran for the Oświęcim County Council in 2006[7] and the Lesser Poland Regional Assembly in 2010[8]. In the 2011 parliamentary elections, she was elected to the Sejm from the Civic Platform list, receiving 6,166 votes in the Chrzanów constituency. On June 16, 2015, she was appointed Secretary of State in the Ministry of the Environment[9]. She held this position until November 11, 2015[10].

In the 2015 elections, she was re-elected to the Sejm, receiving 7,967 votes[11]. During the 8th term of the Sejm, she served as the Deputy Chair of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and as a member of the Committee on Environmental Protection, Natural Resources, and Forestry. She unsuccessfully ran for the European Parliament in 2019[12]. However, in the same year, she was re-elected to the Sejm, running on behalf of the Civic Coalition and receiving 22,013 votes[13]. In December 2021, she was appointed Deputy Chair of the Civic Platform[14]. In 2023, she retained her Sejm mandate for another term, receiving 28,783 votes[15]. On November 13, 2023, she was elected Deputy Marshal of the Sejm for the 10th term[16].
