Alexa Leigh Corbett
[edit]Moving from one place to another through the entire duration of her childhood, Alexa Leigh Corbett could be viewed as a modern day philosopher or maybe a hopeless romantic; but most notoriously, she's a Poet.[1] She wasn't voted her senior class of 2009 Most Funny or Best Smile. In fact, she wasn't even voted Most Likely To Succeed, But at the two-year anniversary of her high school graduation, She had already published five books and over three hundred poems.[2]
Breif Bio
[edit]A question many people might ask, is where does someone suddenly get the motivation to do so much in so little time? The answer is more complicated than one might think. The boston school system had a different cut-off for grade than most places, and when Alexa attended they placed her a grade ahead. With most normal children that type of incident wouldn't pose much of a problem, but it did for her. Alexa went undiagnosed with Dyslexia and ADHD combined type for four years after she began her academic journey. The school board had prevented the adavancement from thrid grade into fourth due to a severe illiteracy problem. However, at this same time Corbett's father was moving the family of her older brother, Andrew, younger sister Somer, and mother Trudy, to Weston, Florida.[3]
Writing Career
[edit]
Alexa taught herself[4][3] to read around age ten at the advice of her brother, whom had Asperser's Syndrome. Skip ahead eight years to high school graduation. Two weeks following her recent accomplishment, Her brother Andrew, overdosed on heroin and died June 15,2009 at the age of 21.[5][6] This signal event revolutionized the way Alexa saw the world. She got a tattoo on her left wrist in August in honor of her brother, and published a book dedicated to him two months after that. Alexa flunked out of college in Spring 2010, after only two semesters. However, she appealed under the pretense of extinuation circumstances. Midway through the summer, she recieved confrimation that the appeal was approved and she was enrolled for the Fall 2010 session.Under the recommendation of the school, she petitioned to retroactively withdraw from her entire first year of college. That was approved late September 2010. Changing her major to psychology with a minor in studio art, Alexa held a GPA above a 3.0. That was a dramatic improvement from flunking out the year before. [3]
In May 2010, The uncle on her father's side whom performed the services for her brother passed away of a heart attack. That funeral was especially hard for her father whom was now the patriarch of eleven brothers and sisters. In August 2010, at the beginning of Alexa's fresh start, her best friend from high school died due to a drug overdose. Following him, her grandfather passed away in October 2010. Only a few short months later, another friend overdosed in March 2011. Without much time between,a friend one year behind Alexa died in a freak accident April 2011. Alexa published The Id: The Art of Being Human[7],dedicated to Andrew October 2009. The Life Ever After April 2010[8], The Writing On The Wall October 2010, Sound Brilliance February 2011[9], and The Life Ever After May 2011. Alexa whom misses her brother dearly accepts that his death was the catalyst for her writing career. Her genuine compassion for people has contributed to the gifts for her elegant composition of prose.
