[edit]

The Library building is listed on both the National Register of Historic Places (November 11, 1977) and the Kansas Register of Historic Places. Pittsburg Public Library is one of the few Carnegie libraries exemplifying Prairie-style architecture.

The Pittsburg Public Library underwent an extensive addition and renovation in 1996-98 funded by a one-half cent sales tax. The library’s details and furnishings reflect the Arts and Crafts style made popular during the early 1900’s. The Library received the Award for Excellence in 1999, presented by The Kansas Preservation Alliance.
