Sanook!
Sanook! or Sanook.com[1] , which is currently run by Sanook Online Company Limited, is one of Thailand’s biggest and most popular portals offering a huge variety of services. These cover everything from search engine (Thai web index and worldwide web search), jobs, knowledge (e.g. dictionaries, encyclopedia, Q&As, Sanook! Pedia), edutainment (e.g. news, horoscope, songs, video clips, TV programmes, games, movies, dramas, celebrities, women, mothers and children, travel, sex and love), to free e-mails and social networking (e.g. online photo albums, post/download pictures, friends/lovers finder, chat, web board), shopping (e.g. classified and auction), downloads (e.g. e-cards, call melodies, Widgets, Glitters) and many more.
Founded in 1997, Sanook! was the product of Poramet Minsiri’s creative pastime. In 1999, the media conglomerate MIH Group acquired Sanook! from the founder and later set up MWEB (Thailand) Co Ltd. From here Sanook! was integrated into Mweb.co.th until 2007 when MWEB was renamed to Sanook Online Company Limited. Torboon Puangmaha has been the company’s CEO until the present.
Sanook! won Truehits.net Web Award 2008 for Thailand’s Most Hit Portal and Most Hit Portal in Entertainment Category, which continues for the 6th consecutive year[1]
The trademark “Sanook!” was originated from Thai word “sanook” which means enjoyment. With this in mind, the portal incorporates the 5F elements: Fun focuses on the delivery of unique web content that perfectly combines joyfulness with useful news and information; Friendly means fast and easy access to information; Fast means timeliness; First stands for the portal’s market leadership; and Friendship concentrates on building creative partnership through constructive interactions.[2]
