'You Have To Burn The Rope' ( 'YHTBTR' ) ( 'You have to burn the rope "), code-namedSpoiler,[1] is a video game designed and programmed in Adobe Flash by Kian Bashiri in February 2008 under the label''Marzipan, with additional graphics Christian Dryden and music by Henrik Nåmark, which also involved in the design. [2]

Become a Internet phenomenon, in just two months was reproduced more than a million times, generating /> Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page). declared on the project: [3]

  • [On the intentions of the game:]

'This is a joke (parody is probably a more accurate word) that began with a stupid idea. Video games is about simple topics. Some people have said that is about how the games start to be very difficult, and it is something that really was not intended, but I think we can also apply. I do not think is a good thing that gives the player a title more than 600 hours of play. [...]

'I think that is rather how people interpret it. Everyone knows the topic of video games, I just did a play about it, and I am not saying anything new that nobody knows. [...]

'The program hopes that entertained my friends and those who walk through the Blogs indie. I never thought that to expand those limits. It was crazy. "

  • [On his dual capacity as an independent developer and college student):]

'Both can benefit. I'm not the type of indie which states that EA is the devil, and never hope to achieve economic gains with my game.[While]never let anyone buy YHTBTR. A guy tried to pay me to add more levels. Of course, did not get anything. '

'There is no relationship, nor does it believe that there are so similar. Henrik, who made the music is a big fan of Jonathan Coulton and "Still Alive", the song is influenced by that.[In addition, the song]was something that was added at the last minute. '

  • [On the development time:]

'Things have never been made quickly. Spend much time in pulirlo. Considering the duration of the game really meant a lot of time '.

- 'Kian Bashiri' statements to 1UP.com

On the possibility of a continuation, in an interview granted to the site IndieGames.com [4] the same author bromearía: 'We want to make some sequels: "You Have To Burn The Bridge," "Have You The Ship To Burn "... now is actually a franchise. No, what will we want to work on other projects'.

Argument == ==

A character pink, controlled by the player, must defeat Grinning Colossus (Coloso Smiling). To do so, and as the title indicates, it should burn the rope that supports a lamp, to launch it on and defeat the enemy. After that, the game ends.

Runs === === Along the corridor leading to the initial Smiling Colossus presents a set of tracks to facilitate the task of the player. These are:

  1. There's a boss at the end of this tunnel ( 'There is a chief enemy at the end of the tunnel ")
  2. You can not hurt him with your weapons ( 'You can not hurt your arms)
  3. To kill him you have to burn the rope above ( 'To kill you must burn the rope above)

A fourth track, hidden, shown if you press the right button of the Mouse on the game screen, leyéndose:4. Also, you can not really die '(Also, you can not really die).

In an interview, [4] Kian Bashiri said that this fourth track is the only Easter egg hidden in the game, on the other denying the possibility of defeat the enemy without launching the lamp. [5]

Personality == ==

Protagonista

Protagonista ==== ==== Body round and pink, wearing only a black bowler hat and orange booties. You can jump and throw axes.

Grinning Colossus ==== ==== The Colossus Smiling arch that the protagonist has to overcome. This is a giant black cylinder, without limbs, eyes and out of mouth. Attacks with areas of the basins are born of his eyes, and your own body, which stun the protagonist. The ax will hurt, but his life bar is recovered immediately.

Soundtrack

[edit]

It is composed, orchestrated and directed by Henrik Nåmark, classmates of Kian Bashiri and that the author known in college two years before schedule YHTBTR. [4]three tracks that sound along Game: during the journey through the tunnel (Cave), during the battle against the Colossus Smiling (Busta Buss) and debtors (Now You're a Hero ). A fourth was composed of an introduction to the battle (Lethalintro), but was finally dismissed in the final version to the player too quickly meet your goal. [6]

Song debtors

One of the compositions of Henrik Nåmark published under license Creative Commons (Attribution-Noncommercial 2.5 Generic ), sounds at the end. The melody calledNow You're a Hero, mimics in many respects to the claims of Portal, where his song, "Still Alive", congratulated the players for their achievement. Nåmark letter is as follows:

You managed to
kill that boss,you see
The Grinning Colossus
You're the hero we all wish we could be

You made it through the tunnel
Then you grabbed that fire on the wall
You jumped up above him
Then you burned the rope and saved us all
You burned the rope and saved us all
You burned the rope and saved us ...

(string)

Now you're a hero
You managed to
beat the whole damn ga-ame
We're happy you made it
But how are you gonna spend
the rest of this da-ay
'Maybe watch a video'
Maybe press refresh
and start again

Now you're a hero
You managed to
beat the whole damn ga-ame
We're happy you made it
But how are you
gonna spend the rest of this da-ay
'Maybe watch a video'
Maybe press refresh
and start again

Yesnow it's over
we did not want to
longer make agame
'This is it'
I swear it's true
oohh ohh

Now you're a hero
you managed to
beat the whole damn ga-ame
We're happy you made it
but how are you
gonna spend the rest of this da-ay
'Maybe watch a video
'
Maybe press refresh and start again»

The composer himself clarify a curiosity about the song on their website: [7]

"As you will know, the second timeto recite" You burned the rope and saved us all "begin to play astring'[8] on my keyboard. I have a book next to the house in which pass-the-clock work. That night in particular was editing the song withReason , when I heard a roar through the window. So I thought: "Hey, I have to put strings'somewhere in my song." You never know where inspiration will come. "
