Here is an introduction to background.

Personal Life

[edit]

Maria Bogner was born Maria Lux in 1914 in Cologne, Germany and died on November 17, 2002 in Tegernsee, Germany. [2] In 1937 she married Wilhelm Bogner(1909-1977) and they had 3 children, Rosemarie, Michael, and Wilhelm Jr.[3]

Career

[edit]

Maria Bogner, “the mother of modern ski fashion”, has influenced skiing like no other woman. In 1936 she created an anorak parka for the German Olympic ski team of which her fiancee was a member. [4] After their marriage Maria became involved in the fashion side of the Bogner company. Ski fashions were only one part of the business. They also designed and manufactured blouses, traditional Bavarian dresses, as well as hiking fashions. [5] The growth of their business was interrupted by WWII and Willy’s internment by the US. While he was away and, in order to support her 3 children, Maria continued to design colorful anoraks that were sold by the thousands. [6] In addition to creating and selling parkas, Maria also began rebuilding the business by creating products such as aprons. [7] In 1955 Maria began branding their company by placing the letter “B” on all zippers sewn in Bogner clothing. [8] “Maria remained actively involved in skiwear design until her sons, Michael and Willy, Jr., took over in the ’70s. The boys were endlessly creative. But no one would ever again have quite the impact on ski fashion as Maria’s simple, sleek-and-sexy stretch pants.” [9]
