Vyacheslav Pichugin

Vyacheslav Pichugin is a well-known artist in the southern part of the Ural Mountain region, Russia. He features traditional genres in his art – still life and landscape. Pichugin graduated from Sverdlovsk Art University, a traditional school of realistic Russian/East European art, in 1957. His realistic canvases have a romantic and impressionistic touch. Valery Portnyagin, a well-known journalist and an art critic from Kurgan wrote about Pichugin’s art: “His vision does not need explanation. It is only necessary to see his pictures to realize the life that is infused in them. Viewing his paintings, you become immersed in a world of pure beauty and forget about life’s dulling routines. In the end, one understands that the nature in his paintings is not just nature but dreams about it.”

Mr. Pichugin has had a long and successful art career. In 1970, Mr. Pichugin was accepted as a member to the Russian Artists’ Union. He was chosen as a laureate of the region in the sphere of culture and art in 1995. In 1999, Mr.Pichugin earned the coveted and rare designation of “Honored Artist of Russia”. Pichugin’s art has been presented in more than ninety local, regional, state, and international exhibitions, including shows in Italy, France, and the United States. He has been the featured artist in exhibitions in 1985, 1995, 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2011. 

In 2004, Pichugin’s pictures were shown in Bergstrom-Mahler Museum, Neenah, WI, USA. It drew a large turnout from the Fox-Cities community which is a Sister-City of Kurgan, the artist’s native city. The name of the exhibit was “Kurgan. So far but yet so dear” and it was dedicated to the city scenes and natural landscape of Kurgan and Ural Mountain region of Russia.
