American Cichlid Association is a membership based special interest group that its primary interest is in the fishes of the family cichlidae. Started in the late 1960's by a group of aquarists led by Guy Jordan.

How it began

The founding fathers of the Amecican Cichlid Association were Guy Jordan, Paul Loiselle, and numerous others.

Conventions

Starting in 1972, the group commenced with an annual convention that featured noted speakers, a fish show, visits to local attractions such as aquariums and museums, talks by the various special interest subgroups, a fish auction and an awards banquet.

Many noted ichthyologists, fish collectors and aquarists have been featured throughout the years.

What the American Cichlid Association does

The organization also publishes a bulletin called the Buntebarche Bulletin.

They maintain a web page dealing with the many interests of the members.
